Anyone looking to upgrade their gear in Avowed need to get Adra. The game’s upgrade and crafting system heavily revolves around Avowed to finding this material becomes a top priority.
The need for Adra remains consistent in each region of Avowed. There are four types of Adra in Avowed. With basic Adra you can only upgrade gear to the second rarity level which is Fine.
For further upgrades you need Awakened Adra, Corrupted Adra, and Adra Ban.

How to Get Adra in Avowed
There are five ways to get Adra in Avowed:
- Purchase Adra
- Loot Adra
- Receive Adra as a Reward
- Crafting/Breakdown Adra
- Dismantling Gear
Purchasing Adra
Merchants in major hubs like Paradis (Dawnshore) and later regions sell Adra tiers corresponding to their zone’s progression (e.g., Awakened Adra in Emerald Stair). So, purchasing makes it easy to get different kinds of Adra but you’ll need to go back and forth between regions sometimes to get the type of Adra you need.
Check merchants regularly, as stock refreshes quickly. Vendors unlocked via side quests should be prioritized when looking for Adra.
Loot from Enemies and Chests
High-level enemies, bounty targets, and special chests in each region drop Adra. Farming Adra is best done through Bounties and side quests.
During your side quests and explorations, you will come across Strangled Adra monoliths. Interact with them in each zone to get free Adra matching the region’s tier (e.g., Corrupted Adra in Shatterscarp).
Quest Rewards
Complete side quests and bounties to get Adra as rewards. Complete side quests and regional tasks (e.g., Precious Light in Dawnshore) for Adra rewards.
Some treasure map locations also yield Adra.
Crafting and Downgrading
At any workbench use three basic Adra to convert them into 1 Awakened Adra. Same can be done with Awakened Adra, combining multiples will yield a higher tier Adra.
At the workbench, combine three lower-tier Adra (e.g., 3 Basic Adra → 1 Awakened Adra).
Moreover, you can convert higher-tier Adra into three lower-tier pieces via the “Downgrade” tab at the workbench.
Dismantling Gear
The gear you loot but don’t need or gear that low tier and outdated and be dismantled. Often when you dismantle gear you will get Adra.
You can dismantle gear at the workbench or from your inventory.
