Mobile gaming has made major strides over the last decade. Following the introduction of the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple claimed that it made AAA gaming possible on the platform. Since then, numerous big games have been ported to both Android and iPhone devices.

Discussing the subject, a prominent porting studio notes that it’s now possible to bring over big games like Sleeping Dogs and Batman Arkham to the platform.

AAA games on mobile devices

Feral Interactive recently held an AMA on Reddit and discussed its work on bringing games to the world of mobile devices.

The team has previously worked on various ports and is currently working on the recently announced Tomb Raider for Android and iOS. For those unfamiliar, this is the same version of Tomb Raider launched on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC in 2013.

“Yeah, it’s possible to bring AAA games to mobile.” -Feral Interactive

When asked whether it would be possible to port even more intensive AAA games to mobile devices, Feral Interactive noted that this is definitely possible. As mentioned earlier, the team itself has plenty of experience in this department.

This response doesn’t come as too big a surprise, considering games like Red Dead Redemption and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm have recently been ported to Android and iOS. As it stands, it seems these tiny devices can handle most games from a decade ago quite well.

Apple’s experiment with the iPhone 15 Pro showed that the platform still has a long way to go before it can offer a solid experience for more recent titles, but the same is not true of older titles. Indeed, Feral Interactive suggests that even open-world titles from the past can now be ported to the platform.

At present, gaming giants like Sony are also interested in exploring the mobile platform. Perhaps this interest will lead to major companies offering legacy IPs to the platform through re-releases of older titles from the Xbox 360 and PS3 eras.
