The Stray Dogs is one of the side missions in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, in which you head to Yaya, and she asks you to find Tetsou, who is hiding in the Church of Takatsuki. So, to complete the side mission, The Stray Dog, you must find the Church of Takatsuki. However, the side quest follows the same patterns as other main quests, where the game doesn’t give you explicit markers to track down objectives.
Instead, you are given vague clues of where to find certain objectives or NPCs tied to the objectives.
How to Start the Side Quest: the stray Dogs in AC SHadows
Head to the south of Temple Osaka to find Yaya, where she will be fighting some enemies. Once you approach her, the objective will be updated.
Help Yaya
Once you help her defeat the enemies, a dialogue will start. Naoe asks her to join in her cause, but Yaya refuses at first. Yaya puts forward a condition that you help her investigate why the monks were after her, and she might think about your offer.
You start investigating it from the monk who attacked her, and Yaya asks what to do with that monk. You get to choose from two options: either forgive or punish him. Choose the earlier one, as it will impact Yaya because she speaks highly of forgiveness.
The Shrine elder tells Yaya that one of the guys named Tetsuo took his late husband’s Kanzashi (hairpin), which means a lot to her.
So to track Tetsuo down, you are given the following clues:
- It is in northern Izumi Settsu
- It is in the Church of Takatsuki
- It is held by Tetsuo

You need to discover a small town called Takatsuki. Refer to the image below for the exact location. The area will be fogged if you haven’t visited the location already.
Follow the blue marker and head inside the church building to find Tetsuo. After talking to him, he runs outside and refuses to come with you.
What Happens When You Find Tetsuo?
He runs away, and there is a short chase sequence that ends outside town. Yaya arrives and stops Tetsuo. She confronts her and wants revenge, but a choice appears where you have to choose between:
- You need to forgive each other
- You need to take responsibility
The choice will affect what Yay thinks of you. But the course of her joining you won’t change with any option selected.
She is then available at the hideout, where you can train her if you build a Dojo.
