Ubisoft recently released its first current-gen only Assassin’s Creed title with Shadows, bringing a slew of technical enhancements and new features. Among other things, many praised the game for its excellent lighting and ray-tracing, all of which played a big role in uplifting the overall atmosphere of the game’s Japanese open world.
Pierre Fortin played a major role in ensuring these technological enhancements worked as well as they did. Since the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows earlier this year, the director has also moved on to other projects, recently joining CDPR to work on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

Pierre Fortin previously served as the Brand and Pipeline Technology Director at Ubisoft Quebec, contributing to the latest version of the studio’s Anvil technology. In a recent post on LinkedIn spotted by the Clawsomegamer team, the developer confirmed that he has now joined CD Projekt RED.
At CDPR, Pierre Fortin is now working as an Engineering Director on Cyberpunk 2. This is important since his experience with overhauling Ubisoft’s engine makes him perfect for the job of taking Cyberpunk 2077’s impressive technology to the next level.
The developer noted that this opportunity is nothing short of a dream and aligns with his core values. He is, therefore, extremely excited for everything that comes next at CDPR.
“This fall, I’m joining CD Projekt RED as an Engineering Director to work on Cyberpunk 2.” – Pierre Fortin
While both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2 rely on very different engines, one being Ubisoft’s in-house Anvil pipeline and the other being Unreal Engine 5, the developer has gained ample experience working with ray tracing, dynamic open-world elements, and more over the years.
Cyberpunk 2077 was already incredibly impressive on the technological front, so this big an addition to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel’s development team should have a net positive impact on the RPG’s development in the coming years.
