Road 96 is an emotional journey set in the fictional country of Petria in 1996. During you time in the story mode you will encounter many different puzzles, playable characters, and collectibles including tapes.
Tapes are collectibles soundtracks from various artists including Robert Parker.
There are 24 tapes you can find in Road 96 and since there are no duplicates so it easy to find them all. However, it gets a bit confusing since there are multiple characters involved.
Cassettes will be randomly placed in scenarios that are affected by the player’s own progress and interactions with NPCs.
Some songs are linked to events or characters (for example, “Dance Machine” from Sonia’s part or “Hit the Road” off Zoe’s cassette player).
Zoe Tape Locations and Events
Tape #1: Smells Like Teen Spirit
When you are hanging out with Zoe by the fire in the Smells Like Teen Spirit section of Road 96, play the trumpet to get a cassette tape. Alternately, you can buy this from a teenager as you enter the campsite, but you’ll need $10.
Tape #2: No Concession
Speak with Zoe at the back of the car during the No Concession section of the game. What you need to do is play Connect Four and listen to Zoe’s music. When she asks if you like her music, say “I do! Totally” to get this tape from her.
Tape #3: More Than Words
Proceed through the tunnel. When you come upon the car with its headlights on, turn right.At the end of the hall, enter the door straight ahead visible.
To leave it and step out into what stands on shaky stilts an old mud structure, crumbling and worn.
Beneath the stairs is a radio and an overturned desk. Open the farthest drawer back to get your hands on that tape.
Stan and Mitch Tape Locations and Events
Tape #4: Nobody’s Supposed to be Here
When you spawn in, follow the main path. Towards the end of the pathway look left to spot an abandoned house. On the right-hand-side of the house is a small pond that looks out over a rock with a fishing pole hanging off it.
Then, reel in the line by interacting with the rod until you no longer get the option and grab the tape at the bottom of the line.
Tape #5: A View to a Kill
During the sidecar section look around when you can, turn around to find a bag that has another cassette tape.
Tape #6: Thieves in the Temple
Assist Stan and Mitch to get into the Happy Taxi rank Eventually, one agent will try smashing the door to the security room. Before you leave, open the safe with the code 2237 (it is in the drawer to the left of the alarm console), or hack it if you can. Grab the tape inside.
Tape #7: Some Like It Hot
Walk around the right side of the Super Supper restaurant, until you find a teenager selling a tape for $10.
Now go to the back of the diner and open the back door with your lockpick ability. You are used on data until October 2023. Steal the tape from inside right drawer.
Alex Tape Locations and Events
Tape #8: Beep Boop Beep
Head around the right side of the diner, where a teen is selling a tape for $10. Then head into the diner.
On the far-right end of the bar is a sale stand where you can also purchase tapes for $10.
Or, if you break into the back room with Alex and get noticed, you can head back out into the diner and behind the bar. Go to the sales stand and instead take the tape.
Tape #9: LFO
Look next to Alex, you’ll see a tape but cannot grab it. Go back to the chapter and lay down on the pillow. Then you’ll be seated next to Alex talking to ‘Mister Ursus’. But offer to help tune the scanner for police transmissions: When you finish, Alex gives you the tape as a thank you.
Tape #10: Walking In My Shoes
Use the metal detector on Alex’s computer to locate the phone booth keys. Look around the stone and dirt pile right next to the bones and you should be able to dig up a box with a tape in it.
Tape #11: Teenage Dirtbag
On the side of the front passenger seat in the van, open the side pocket of the door, near the footwell, and you will find the tape.

Tape #12: Praying For Time
While you’re in the stolen car, hit eject on the radio to retrieve the tape inside.
Tape #13: Walk The Dinosaur
You sit in the cab and there are four magazines in front of you. Check out the covers and find one with a cassette picture on it. Look at that magazine then put it back to get a tape.
Tape #14: Enjoy The Silence
When Jarod stops to handle the terrified and begging ‘flat tire,’ take a look in the front of the cab and steal the tape on the passenger seat, near the handcuffs.
Tape #15: Roll With It
In the car park right of Palava’s Bar, a teenager is offering a tape for 10 dollars.
Go Straight into the bar and volunteer to work behind the bar. While serving drinks, take the cassette to the left of the cash register.
Sonya Tape Locations and Events
Tape #16: Cruisin’
When Adam pulls back the partition to announce that The Sonya Show is about to commence, Sonya will ask you to ‘park those buns’ next to her. Sit down, look left, and then lift the pillow off the chair to reveal the tape.
Tape #17: Video Killed the Radio Star
On your way to the Tyrak political rally, look to your right after passing the trash can. You’ll see a wrecked car behind a boulder. Now open the front-left door of the car and peel the tape off the cassette player inside.
Tape #18: Worlds Apart
After Sonya gets into the car, look down to the bottom right corner of her feet to find a tape in the rear passenger footwell.
Tape #19: I’ve Seen That Face Before
If you have the lockpicking skill from Stan and Mitch or John’s OMEN Vitality skill, you can get the tape here. Offer to carry the champagne; use the employee motel card to unlock the door that reads ‘Authorized Personnel Only,’ just to the right of the reception area.
Open the locker on the far side to discover a cassette.
Fanny Tape Locations and Events
Tape #20: Sweet Dreams
Go to the right side of the gas station and you will find a shack. Head inside and interact with the drawing in the back of the shack, left corner and then go to the left side of the gas station, next to the radio tower close to some barrels. Approach the open barrel in the rear of this space to spot and read a note.
Standing under the yellow sign reading “environmentally hazardous substance,” face the rusted car behind the station and take 10 steps in its direction. Dig down, noted in a box with a cassette.
Tape #21: Police Academy
When you spawn into the car, check under the radio of the car to find a tape.
Tape #22: Something in the Way
Speak with the teen sitting on the opposite side about him missing his bed. Say that “I totally understand” to get the tape.
John Tape Locations and Events
Tape #23: Blame It on the Rain
When you spawn in, open the passenger glove box in John’s truck to find the cassette tape.
Tape #24: About a Girl
When the chapter starts keep on the trail next to the road. You will reach a fork and instead of speaking with John, head left and behind the cairn where you will find a small tent. Inside search the rucksack to find the final tape.
