Rooms come in different types in Blue Prince and one of are Red Rooms. They are drafted like any other room in the game but unlike other rooms, these always come with some form of downside.
There is something that is wrong with them and knowing what that is leads to better results and handling of the situation.
What are Red Rooms and How they Work?
In Blue Prince, Red Rooms are special rooms but their “special-ness” isn’t anything positive. The Red Rooms are identified by district Red Border. Red Rooms present challenges or penalties without offering any immediate benefits.
Each room of this kind is designed to drain the player’s resources and test resource management in different ways.
For example, Red Rooms often impose costs or hindrances. For example, the Darkroom disables the player’s ability to view floor plans upon entry, complicating navigation and planning.
But not all is bad here. Under certain conditions Red Rooms can be turned into something beneficial.
For instance, restoring power via the Breaker Box can reactivate the lights in the Darkroom, restoring visibility.
You can also use certain items like the Knight’s Shield to counter the adverse effects of Red Rooms and safely navigate them.

When Should You Draw Red Rooms
Red Rooms come with negative effects but that’s not all they offer to the game. There are cases where it makes sense for you to draft Red Rooms in Blue Prince.
Let’s start with the Gymnasium. It is a great Red Room to draft in Blue Prince. It only costs one extra step to enter but it has 3 doors which makes this Red Room more flexible. Combine this with the Utility Closet to counter its negative effects.
The Darkroom is just as good as the Gymnasium but only draft if you have a Utility Box in the manor already. Next, the Archives room; Every time you draft this, one of your future choices gets hidden/archived. Avoid it early, but it’s fine later when you have more options.
You can also go with the Maid’s Room but never draft this early in the game. Use it in mid to late game after you unlock the Nursery.
The Weight Room comes with a lever that gives you access to the Antechamber’s South Gate. Enter this room and use a sledgehammer to smash the wall behind the Punching Bag. You can also use a Power Hammer which works far better in this case.
Furnace also has its use case if you want to melt items from the Freezer by placing them nearby by within a few ranks.
Next lets talk about the Chapel Red Room. This room is drafted when you need to solve the Tomb Puzzle. The clues to this puzzle are inside the Chapel room.
The Closed Exhibit is also a safe room if you have the Security Keycard. But the only room you should never draft in Blue Prince is the Lavatory Red Room.
