PlayStation has shut down Bluepoint Games, one of its oldest partners for remasters and remakes, and fans are understandably upset. Although PlayStation first-party head Herman Hulst has blamed industry conditions and the rapidly evolving economic climate for this closure, many are still skeptical about the company’s future direction.

Amid the confusion, an insider has suggested that this may not be the end of layoffs and studio closures for PlayStation.

PlayStation Another Studio Closure

This information comes from Detective Seeds, who states that one more major PlayStation studio could be shut down in 2026. Moreover, the insider’s statement suggests that the gaming giant could even be gearing up to shut down more than one studio.

Although Detective Seeds did not mention any particular studio, it isn’t too hard to make a few educated guesses based on recent history. PlayStation’s track record shows that the company is targeting studios that have recently faced project cancellations or have yet to launch a game in 4-5 years.

This puts a team like Sony Bend as one of the prime targets of a potential closure. Others like Media Molecule could also end up on the list following the letdown that was Dreams.

“Bluepoint Games may not be the only PlayStation studio/s that we get bad news on this year.” -Detective Seeds

While the best-case scenario would be for all of PlayStation’s studios to survive and release games in the future, it isn’t hard to envision more layoffs following the closure of a prestigious team like Bluepoint Games. However, here’s hoping these teams remain unimpacted throughout the rest of the year and continue to produce excellent titles.
