Assassin’s Creed’s Shadows, set in 16th century feudal Japan, comes with many features that imitate the real-life setting of that era.
Well, we have to give credit to Ubisoft for focusing on many tiny details, and one of them is cats. Well, it will be a bit unfair if we say, tiny, because there’s a whole island in the game dedicated to cats, aptly called Cats Island.
As per the name, Cat Island is inhabited by cats, just like the real-world Aoshima and Enoshima in Japan.
The best part is that you can visit Cat Island in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, spend some time with them, and even pet them. That being said, if you want to visit Cat Island, continue reading this guide.
Where is Cat Island located in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

The actual name of Cat Island is Okishama, probably taken from Aoshima (the real cat island).
You will find the in-game cat island right in the middle of Lake Biwa, which is to the northeast of the map.
The lake is in a region called Omi, which requires an enemy level rating of 18, so you’ll probably want to spend around 20 hours on the game before unlocking it.
The closest locations to Cat Island (Okishama) are Hachiman (a village in the Shimmering Fields) and the sub-region of Azuch (which is in the east and southeast of the island). You can fast travel to these areas using the two eagle points.
However, you can get there earlier as well as the island is quite safe.
You can either swim from the coast or you may find a boat if luck is on your side. However, you can’t steer the boats, and the people on board may attack you, so keep your guard up.
There is also a fast travel point you can unlock on the island.
What is there on Cat Island in AC Shadows?
Cats. And lots of them. As it is an island, you don’t have to guess that there will be fish in aplenty as well.
As far as the details of the cats are concerned, you’ll find two breeds on the island, Tabby Bobtail and Calico Bobtail. Pet them to add to your pets collection at the hideout.
If you like them, which I am pretty sure you will, get them as pets for Naoe and Yasuke, and take them to your Hideout.
Here is a little spoiler from our side: Cat Island is the location of “The Wheel Turns” mission, and you are rewarded with a pet dog (Fuji-Maru) at the successful completion.
But don’t get too excited with pets; they are nothing more than a statue with fur in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
