Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is indeed a graphically intensive-game, which struggles to run on low to mid-end systems. Due to the game’s amazing graphics, people with decent or even high-end systems are experiencing the game stuttering on their PC. This is aside from the DirectX error that PC players are experiencing in Frontiers of Pandora. If you are also one of those people, then worry not, as this guide is all you need to fix Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora stuttering on your PC.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora Performance Fixed on PC

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora could be stuttering on your PC due to various reasons. After trying different fixes, I found some that will fix this issue for you. These fixes can be really useful as they helped out several other Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora players. Don’t know what to do? Let’s take a look at how to fix Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora stuttering on your PC and give it a performance boost.

Fix #1: Update Direct Storage

To make sure that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora loads faster and compiles shaders more efficiently, we will need to update direct storage. Follow my lead:

  • Download this package.
  • To extract it, you might need to rename the file extension to .rar.
  • Extract the package, go to native/bin/x64, and copy dstorage.dll and dstoragecore.dll files.
  • Open Ubisoft Connect and select Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  • Go to Properties and click on ‘Open Folder’ under Local Files.
  • A new Explorer Window will open, containing game files for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  • Paste the files here.
  • Load up Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and see if the stuttering persists.

Fix #2: Update Intel’s XeSS to version 2.0.1

Many players report that updating Intel XeSS to version 2.0.1 has fixed Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora stuttering on their PC. Here’s what to do:

  • Download this package.
  • Extract the files from the downloaded zip folder. Go to XeSS_SDK/bin.
  • Copy the “libxess.dll” file.
  • Open Ubisoft Connect and select Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  • Go to Properties and click on ‘Open Folder’ under Local Files.
  • Paste the file in the Explorer Window that opens. Replace the file when prompted.
  • Launch Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and it won’t stutter again.

Fix #3: Tweak Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Graphic Config File

To fix stuttering and performance issues in Frontiers of Pandora, you need to make some changes to the graphics config file of the game. But first, make sure that Windows paging file or virtual memory is set to automatic, so it should handle the paging file or virtual memory just fine by itself. After that, what you need to do is head to the graphic config file and tweak it. Follow these steps:

  • Open Ubisoft Connect and select Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  • Go to Properties and click on ‘Open Folder’ under Local Files.
  • A new Explorer window will open containing game files for Avatar.
  • Open the graphic settings.cfg and make the following adjustments
    vignette = false,
    presentInterval = 0,
    reduceLatency = false,
  • In the same config file, look for [“streamer dedicated budget”] = xxxx. Your VRAM goes in the xxxx area, so replace it with your total GPU VRAM here in MB.
    8GB = 8192
    6GB = 6144
    4GB = 4096
    2GB = 2048
  • Save the changes, continue playing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the stuttering is now fixed.

If you have 6 gb VRAM just like me, then it should be like [“streamer dedicated budget”] = 6144. To get your VRAM in MBs, multiply it by 1024. for safety, I suggest you make a backup as well.

Additional Tips

  • If you are an AMD user, then do not use Anti-Lag or AFMF (AMD Fluid Motion Frames).
  • For Nvidia users, try running Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora without Nvidia Reflex and set your Shader Cache Size to 10gb via the Nvidia control panel.
  • Enable FSR 3 Frame Generation in-game or DLSS (If you have a 40 series GPU).

And that should fix Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in-game stuttering and give you a performance boost. Now that the stuttering is fixed, why not check our other guides on issues in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora?
