Ever noticed the manufacturer’s title in a gun’s title in Borderlands 4? It might not look that important, but it greatly changes your gameplay.
If you want to know which type of gun meets your taste, you need to understand all 8 weapons manufacturers and make your decision. Having trouble deciding? Worry not, as in this Borderlands 4 guide, I have explained all 8 of the weapon manufacturers in detail.
If you have played previous Borderlands games then you are already familiar with most manufacturers, but there is a new licensed weapons system in the game that makes big changes to how weapons work in Borderlands 4.
Weapons aren’t strictly “single-manufacturer” anymore. They can have “parts” from multiple manufacturers. For example, a Maliwan shotgun might have a Daedalus under-barrel, or a Torgue mag, giving hybrid traits.
And weapon rarity plays a big role here. Higher-tier weapons (Epic, Legendary) can carry more licensed parts. More complex/hybrid traits tend to be found on rarer drops.
Manufacturers like Hyperion, COV, and Atlas who are not full weapon makers can still contribute to chaos with Licensed Parts.
All Borderlands 4’s Weapons Manufacturers Explained
Manufacturer | Whether new or returning | Signature Trait(s) |
---|---|---|
Jakobs | Returning | High raw damage, strong critical hit potential, often weapons with ricochet mechanics. |
Maliwan | Returning | Elemental weapons fire, cryo, shock, etc. Good for damage‐over‐time and status effects. |
Vladof | Returning | Huge magazines, high rate of fire, suppressive / sustained‐fire focus, at a cost to accuracy. |
Torgue | Returning | Explosive damage, splash, heavy firepower. |
Tediore | Returning | The “toss to reload” mechanic: when you empty the clip, you throw the gun like a grenade and a fresh one spawns / re‐equips. |
Order | New | Precision bursts. High-powered burst fire at a cost (more ammo, perhaps slower rate). Meant for accuracy/controlled shooting. |
Ripper | New | Weapons that spin up or charge, then fire fully automatic as long as you hold trigger; aggressive sustained fire after a buildup. |
Daedalus | New | Versatility / multi-ammo types. Easy to use, reliable. Some guns can switch ammo types or modes. |
Understanding all 8 weapon manufacturers’ titles is crucial as it helps you decide which type of weapons suits you the best. Below, I have explained all of them in detail:
Daedalus

Allows the gun to use two different ammo types by converting SMG or Assault Rifle ammo into Sniper ammo, making it ideal for players who prefer the gun play of Assault Rifle, SMG, or Sniper Rifle.
If your assault rifle starts using sniper ammo, it will only use the bullets and doesn’t transform into a sniper rifle itself, so keep that in mind. Offers a great rate of fire and a decent magazine as well.
Jakobs

Ideal for players who want AoE damage by shooting just one enemy. Jakob’s weapons offer huge damage and can prove extremely useful if your aim is good. Hitting headshots or critical hits in a fight can trigger the ricochet effect. Jacob’s guns mostly depend on your aim. They don’t come with those huge magazines and high fire rate.
Torgue

Torgue weapons come with 2 modes: Torgue Impact and Torgue Sticky. They both offer high-explosive damage. Switch to the Impact mode and your weapon will turn into something like a rocket launcher, dealing splash damage after making contact with an enemy or terrain.
The Sticky mode is unique. You shoot projectiles at your enemies, and they stick to them. Reload your gun or switch modes to trigger an explosion.
Maliwan

Allows users to switch between elemental types and deal different type of elemental damage including Incendiary, Shock, Corrosive, Cryo, and Radiation. Its ability to switch between elemental types will greatly help you in the end-game.
Order

Order guns have a unique pattern, which takes skill to learn. You can either charge to release or spray bullets, or press the fire button for a single shot. Charge is useful for boss fights, whereas spray is useful to clear out normal mobs at a close range.
Vladof

Vladof guns are pretty cool, as aside from their high rate of fire, they offer an alt-fire mode. The downside is their lower accuracy and stability. To make them work, you will need to use licensed parts. Once you reach the limit for the alt-fire rate for these guns, they go under a cooldown. Pretty balanced in my opinion.
Tediore
This category contains one of the coolest types of weapons in the game. Tired of waiting for your guns to reload? Just throw them at the ground and pick them up again. This cancels the reload animation, and you will get a new gun. Aside from this, you can actually shoot some Tediore weapons to cause an explosion, which releases MIRV grenades. These weapons also come with great damage. Ideal for fast-paced gameplay.
Ripper

These weapons come with a high fire rate and a decent magazine. But there’s a catch. You must hold the charge button and charge it before spraying those bullets. Its shotguns and sniper variants are pretty good too. Not ideal for enemies that require accurate shots to be killed.
