You can’t always be on offense during as a Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4. There are several defensive options, one of the best being the Super Soldier shield. When it’s fully charged, you are almost unkillable due to its defensive capabilities. In this Borderlands 4 guide, I will tell you how to get the Legendary Super Soldier Shield.
How to Get Super Soldier Shield in BL4
You can only get this shield as a drop from Vile Lictor. He can be found in the Umbral Foundry at Windspear in Terminis Range. This area is unlocked early in the story mission “One Fell Swoop”. Travel to Belton’s Bore and speak to Defiant Calder. Now, start the His Vile Sanctum mission.
Vile Lictor will be the final boss of this mission. You can get the Super Soldier Shield as a drop after defeating him. The chances are slim, so it might take a few attempts. Respawn him using Moxxi’s big Encore machine and farm him till he drops the Super Soldier Shield.
Besides the shield, you also get some additional items like the Ruby’s Grasp pistol, the Blockbuster grenade, and four class mods:
- Harlowe’s Universal Generator
- Vex’s Injected Undead Eye
- Amon’s Ember Blacksmith
- Rafa’s Precise Instigator
Super Soldier Shield Abilities
The shield comes with a unique ability, Power Play, which blesses you with great buffs while your shield is full.
- You will receive an overshield
- 25% fire rate
- Continousnammo regeneration
- Increases movement speed
That’s not all, you can combine the Super Soldier Shield with builds that rely on high damage and non-stop shooting like Amon’s Ordnance, Harlowe’s Nuclear Winter, and Rafa’s Vitriol Peacekeeper, due to its great speed and firepower.
How to Beat Vile Lector in Borderlands 4
The boss can be quite challenging to defeat, as it has two phases. Both phases are difficult in their own ways, but understanding the Vile Lector’s move set can make the fight easier. Let’s break down each phase so you won’t have any trouble beating the boss:
Phase One
You will have to destroy the Vile Lictor’s shield. For that, you can use the Atomic Driver on Harlowe and utilize her CHROMA Accelerator to make the boss’s shield disappear in no time. I recommend using Peacemaker Cannons with Rafa, or a bleed build with Vex. Breaking his arms will reveal a core, which is the spot to deal massive damage. For that, you can use the Blastpipe series, which deals consistent core damage compared to grenades. Here are attacks that you should look out for:
- Twin blue barriers: During this attack, Vile Lictor will throw short, but quick walls towards you. Pretty easy to dodge by jumping over them.
- Triple violet barricades: Instead of short walls, he will now throw large vertical walls that appear in sets of three. You’ll need to be extra cautious while moving between them.
- Arm storm: His detached limbs orbit him, launching a wave of tracking punches. Carefully dodge them. Break his shield to begin his second phase.
Phase Two
Nothing new, he will just keep using his old moves, but some swift attacks as well. Look out for the following attacks.
- Color surge combos: Lictor will fire alternating blue and purple barriers across the arena.
- Sweeping wall dash: He glides while releasing a line of purple barriers in motion.
- Arm storm: His detached limbs orbit him, launching a wave of tracking punches.
You might have noticed that all of Vile Lictor’s attacks require you to dodge them quickly. For that, we will use the Glide pack upgrades from Inceptus and Origo, which will increase our stamina, making dodging much easier.
At 75%, 50% and 25%, he will charge up a huge explosion, which you can easily dodge by grappling onto the floating platforms that appear. Be careful not to get caught in this attack.
