Last year, Bandai Namco announced a sequel to its popular Souls-like title from 2019. Code Vein 2 promises a grander and more intense take on the foundations established in the first game, presenting players with even more challenges than before.
As Bandai Namco prepares to launch Code Vein 2 later this month, producer Keita Iizuka also confirms that the title was developed without generative AI.
Speaking to PCGamesN, Keita Iizuka emphasized that the development team focused on creativity and conveying a cohesive experience to the players.
This is precisely why the studio avoided using generative AI. According to the producer, the team was focused on creating something very original, so it did not want to see the core vision muddled by AI-generated assets or creations.
Keita Iizuka noted that Code Vein 2’s aesthetic is key to the overall experience. This is why elements like the visual art style stand out so much. For those unaware, the first game was originally dubbed ‘anime Souls,’ establishing a unique identity for itself in a genre where titles often fail to stand out.
We have not used generative AI for Code Vein 2. We value art style and how it looks. We are creating a very original world. – Keita Iizuka
The use of generative AI for game development has been a hot topic lately. Multiple studios, including the likes of Larian and Sandfall Interactive, have seen backlash over discussions regarding artificial intelligence, so it seems Bandai Namco was wise to steer clear of the technology when making Code Vein 2.
