Dell, like many other major tech giants, has begun selling its PC and laptops with AI-based branding. Because the entire industry is focusing on NPUs and AI integration, Dell’s latest products all focus on these elements. However, Dell also admits that consumers don’t buy products because of specific AI branding.
As reported by PCGamer, the company’s recent messaging has drifted away from AI a little bit. This shift comes mainly due to consumer reactions to the previously released products, which, as Dell puts it, consumers did not buy due to AI marketing.

Head of product Kevin Terwilliger went as far as to say that the AI branding can be confusing for consumers. The company is still packing NPUs inside its latest laptops and PCs to support the technology, but the marketing has shifted in a major way.
It could be argued that Dell’s stance on the situation reflects the overall uncertainty around AI adoption. Although major giants are going all in on the technology, many consumers are still not convinced of AI’s real-life day-to-day uses.
“What we’ve learned over the course of this year, especially from a consumer perspective, is they’re not buying based on AI. I think AI probably confuses them more than it helps them.” -Kevin Terwilliger
Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how consumers continue to cope with the increased focus on AI and AI-based products worldwide. If Dell’s statement is anything to go by, mainstream adoption of AI, especially in the way tech giants are pushing, won’t be here anytime soon.
