Following last year’s release, Doom: The Dark Ages is now closing in on its first anniversary. The first-person shooter launched to incredible excitement and hype last year, falling somewhat short of the high bar set by its predecessors from 2016 and 2020.
Still, id Software’s latest release accumulated 3 million players in a week, becoming the studio’s biggest launch to date. The first-person shooter has now returned as a Steam best-seller, right in time for id Software’s 35th anniversary.

At the time of writing, Doom: The Dark Ages stands as Steam’s 5th best-selling title. When excluding Counter-Strike 2 and the Steam Deck, SteamDB shows that id Software’s latest release can be considered the 3rd best-seller on the platform currently.
This bump in sales comes as a result of a deep discount on the title by 67%. This sale lasts till February 15, with other titles in the modern Doom trilogy also on sale. Of course, this sale isn’t the only reason for the current interest in Doom: The Dark Ages.
id Software celebrated its 35th anniversary on February 1, teasing plenty of exciting things for the future. In a mesage shared on Twitter, developers Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton promised more information for the fans, prompting a heightened interest in Doom and all things id Software.
Later this year, id Software will also release its major expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages, adding further content and story beats to the title. Suffice it to say, the Doom Slayer’s latest outing isn’t finished just yet.
