Are You a Toxic Gamer?
Elden Ring Nightreign has launched with critical acclaim across all platforms. The game offers a unique twist on the Elden Ring 2022 formula, utilizing the same game engine. Since the underlying tech for both games is the same, Nightreign also inherits some of the technical issues found in its predecessor, like being locked at 60 FPS on PC and more. Aside from that, PC users report that the game is also crashing randomly during gameplay. I have compiled a list of fixes that will resolve the Elden Ring Nightreign in-game crash issues on your Windows PC.
5 Ways to Fix Elden Ring Nightreign Crashing on PC
According to PC players, Elden Ring Nightreign keeps crashing randomly during gameplay, and no error message pops up. There are multiple reasons for this issue to pop up, like Windows Core Isolation interfering with Easy Anti-Cheat, an overclocked graphics card, and more. The following fixes will resolve the Elden Ring Nightreign crash issue on your Windows PC.
Fix #1 – Disable Core Isolation
Core Isolation is a Windows security feature that protects the core processors of the OS by isolating them in memory. In simple words, the core Windows processors run in virtual environments. However, this security feature is the reason Elden Ring Nightreign keeps crashing on your Windows 11 PC.
The game uses Easy anti-cheat, which is a kernel-level system. This can cause conflicts with Core Isolation protection measures and the anti-cheat. To fix the gameplay crashes in Nightreign, you must disable Core Isolation. Here is how you can disable it:
- Open Windows Settings.
- Go to the “Privacy & security” tab
- Click “Windows Security” and select the “Virus & Threat Protection” option.
- A Windows Security window will open.
- Select the “Device security” tab.
- Click “core isolation details” under “Core isolation”.
- Toggle “Memory integrity” off.
- Restart your PC.
- Launch Elden Ring Nightreign, and the gameplay crashes are now fixed.

Fix #2 – Delete Anti-Cheat and Verify Game Files
Based on community feedback, the Easy Anti-Cheat is often the reason Elden Ring Nightreign is crashing during gameplay, and also the reason the game is crashing on startup. You can fix the gameplay crashes by deleting the Easy anti-cheat folder in Nightreign’s install folder and verifying the game files. Here is how you can delete and verify the game files:
- Right-click Elden Ring Nightreign in your Steam library > Manage > click the “Browse local files” option.
- A new Explorer window will open containing Nightreign’s game files.
- Find the Easy Anti-cheat folder and delete it.
- After that, right-click Elden Ring Nightreign in your Steam library and select “properties”.
- In the “Installed files” tab, click the “Verify integrity of game files” option.
- Once the scan is complete, play Elden Ring Nightreign, and the in-game crash issue is now fixed.

Fix #3 – Reset GPU Driver
Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) is a Windows feature that detects issues with the GPU driver and recovers it. However, it isn’t a perfect feature and often shuts down the driver after detecting a stall, which is crashing Elden Ring Nightreign. You can fix the crashes by tweaking the Windows TDR, so it resets the GPU driver when it detects the driver stalling. Here is how you can tweak it:
- Open “regedit” and run it as an administrator.
- Go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> GraphicsDrivers”.
- Right-click in the right panel in the blank space, hover the mouse cursor over “New”, select the “DWORD (32-bit) Value” option, and name the file TdrLevel.
- Right-click the “TdrLevel” file and select Modify.
- Confirm that the value is 0 under “Value data”.
- Restart your PC.

Fix #4 – Disable All In-Game Overlays
In-game overlays are useful as they allow PC users to chat with their friends or access other features without minimizing or quitting the game. However, they can interfere with games and cause gameplay crashes.
The overlays are enabled by default, so whether you are using them or not, Elden Ring Nightreign is crashing due to in-game overlays. You can fix the issue by disabling all active overlays. Here is how you can disable overlays for Discord, Steam, NVIDIA App, and NVIDIA Control Panel:
- Discord: Open User settings and go to the Game Overlay tab. Toggle off the “Enable In-game overlay” option.
- Steam: Go to Steam Settings and navigate to the In-game tab. Uncheck the box next to the “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game” option.
- NVIDIA App: Open the Nvidia App, open Settings, go to the “Features” tab, and disable “Nvidia Overlay”.
- GeForce Experience: Open GeForce Experience and click the gear icon next to your username. Select the General tab and turn off the “IN-GAME Overlay” option.

Fix #5 – Revert Graphics Card Overclock
If you have overclocked your graphics card, it is the reason Nightreign is crashing during gameplay. You can fix the crashes by reverting the graphics card to its default GPU and Memory clocks.
However, if you haven’t overclocked your graphics hardware, then it is likely that it’s factory overclocked. Most graphics cards from NVIDIA or AMD AIB partners, like ASUS, Zotac, or MSI, are either factory overclocked or have slightly higher GPU and Memory clocks than the reference models.
While the difference is minor, these higher clock speeds are crashing Elden Ring Nightreign. You can fix the issue by enabling the Debug Mode for your NVIDIA graphics cards or manually underclocking your AMD GPU.
Enable Debug Mode (NVIDIA)
Go to NVIDIA Control Panel, click Help, and select Debug Mode. This will fix the in-game crash issue with the game.

Helpful Tip: The Debug Mode forces the graphics card to use NVIDIA’s recommended GPU and Memory clocks for the particular model. This reduces the GPU load a bit and fixes crashes. You can disable it any time you want.
Underclock Your Graphics Hardware (AMD)
AMD Adrenalin Software does not offer an option that would force the factory-overclocked graphics card to use the recommended GPU and Memory clocks. This means that you’ll have to manually underclock your AMD graphics card to fix the in-game crashes.
The difference in clock speeds between the reference model and the third-party AIB model is small, somewhere between 50 – 100 MHz. So you won’t be losing a lot of performance, but your gaming sessions will be stable in Elden Ring Nightreign.
- First, look up the recommended GPU and Memory clocks for your graphics card.
- Open AMD Adrenalin Software.
- Go to the “Performance” tab.
- Click the “Tuning” tab.
- Click on “Custom” under “Manual Tuning”.
- Enable “GPU Tuning” and also enable “Advanced control”.
- Three sliders will appear: Minimum Frequency, Maximum Frequency, and Voltage.
- You only need to adjust the “Maximum Frequency” slider.
- Slide it a little bit to the left to lower it, and click the “Apply Changes” button at the top right. (Use the value that you find online.)
- Play Nightreign, and the in-game crash issue is now fixed.
