With 2026 less than a week away, the year of GTA 6 is almost here. Rockstar’s upcoming title is perhaps its most anticipated one yet, leading to both excitement and fear among gamers.
In particular, many fans are concerned about pricing. Since no other IP can rival Grand Theft Auto today, there is a compelling argument to be made for Rockstar pricing GTA 6 at $100. This is something many analysts believe is completely plausible, but one veteran Rockstar developer believes the studio won’t be greedy in this regard.

Mike York, who worked as an animator on Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5, recently spoke to esports insider and discussed GTA 6’s MSRP.
He noted that a $70 price tag for the game makes the most sense, with Rockstar unlikely to feel the need for a higher price tag, largely because the title will already sell millions of copies and break records at the $70 MSRP.
Mike York went on to say that the studio will likely offer a souped-up version of GTA 6 for $99 with additional perks for those willing to go the extra mile. This is something practically guaranteed with modern games, so Rockstar will likely follow suit. Besides additional variants, the developer firmly believes that GTA 6 will start at $70.
“I think it will come out at $70. They don’t need to leave that sour taste in people’s mouths if they don’t have to, so I don’t think they’ll do that.” -Mike York
Many in the industry currently believe that $100 games are inevitable. Whether GTA 6 is the game to open the floodgates to this MSRP for AAA titles remains to be seen, but the industry is still expected to eventually pivot in this direction as shareholders look for higher profits and operating margins.
For now, fans should find some peace in the fact that a former Rockstar veteran familiar with the team and its mindset believes GTA 6 won’t be the first to set this trend. If the team plays its cards right, it will reap the benefits of the more expensive $100 addition while also collecting goodwill for launching the title at a starting price of $70.
