Paint Cages in Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 are like locked chests you can unlock to get rewards. Each chest is locked by three glowing locks found in the nearby environment. Destroying these locks give you access to the locked Paint Cage.
Most areas in the game have a handful these Paint Cages. I found only two Paint Cages in the Flying Waters area of the game.

Clair Obscure Expedition 33 Flying Waters Paint Cage Locations
As I mentioned, there are two Paint Cages in this section of the game;
Paint Cage #1
Unlike most other Paint Cages in Expedition 33, the first Paint Cage in Flying Waters can’t be missed. The cage is near the entrance of the Flying Waters. It is like a tutorial Paint Cage so as you get close to it you get a message explaining what Paint Cages are.
There are three locks that open up the first Paint Cage in the Flying Waters:
- Lock #1: The first lock is to the left of the Paint Cage. You should see a giant pillar in front of the path leading further into the Flying Waters. The lock is on the wall behind the pillar.
- Lock #2: Another lock is to the right of the Paint Cage. It is glowing and very easy to spot.
- Lock #3: Stand in front of the Paint Cage and turn around. You should be facing the direction of the giant whale. The lock is glowing on the tale of the whale.
Shoot all three locks to open the first Paint Cage in Flying Waters. You get a Chroma Elixir Shard for opening the Paint Cage.
Flying Waters #2
The second Flying Waters Paint Cage is inside the Coral Cave on a hidden side path. The path is underground so you need to drop down. Look for a red lit section of Coral Cave with a hole in the ground that lets you repel down.
There are some Cruler enemies in the area so clear them first before you start looking for the locks.
- Lock 1: The first look is right behind the Paint Cage on the wall.
- Lock #2: The second lock is also next to the cage near the three small pillar like structures coming out of the ground.
- Lock #3: The third lock is on one of the mines in the middle of the area.
