Following the popularity of age restrictions and requirements of facial scans or ID verification, Discord has recently come forward with a major announcement. The popular online socializing and chatting platform now makes it mandatory for all users to verify their age through face scans or ID.
Needless to say, fans are not too happy with this announcement. While Discord will remain usable without verification, multiple functions of the platform will be hampered for those unwilling to go through with the face or ID scan.
Amid the chaos, many fans have begun proposing an interesting idea, calling on Valve to offer an alternative to Discord.

Over on platforms like Twitter, fans have recently discussed the idea of a Discord-like platform from Valve.
This idea is so interesting since Discord became the default communication channel of choice for gamers all around the globe. In fact, much of the platform’s original popularity came about due to its appeal to gaming audiences.

In the replies, many users have pointed out that Steam does offer many of the same perks as Discord, such as group chats, channels, voice communications, etc. The platform even offers a workaround for streaming or sharing your content, but the problem lies in the fact that these functions aren’t nearly as seamless as they are on Discord.
Fans believe that Discord’s popularity among gamers is reason enough for Valve to take a shot at such a platform marketed at gamers. Of course, Valve’s goodwill among gamers also helps it in this matter since millions trust the company.
While many agree with this sentiment, others believe that Discord’s new policies leave a gap in the market for anybody willing to challenge the giant. The question of rapidly evolving laws regarding age restriction worldwide would still exist in such cases, but it’s interesting to see audiences so willing to move away from this popular platform.
Similar points regarding a Discord alternative have been raised by fans on platforms like Reddit. It’s worth noting that the platform also suffered from a massive leak that revealed personal information not too long ago, so users are not immediately willing to give away personal ID or facial scans to Discord.
Perhaps this demand will lead to a new platform emerging to fill the gap or an existing platform revamping itself to rival Discord.
