The Game Awards for this year just wrapped up a few hours ago. As expected, the show was full of big game reveals, major awards, and plenty of commercials. All of this is very much par for the course, and some would argue that this year’s show was a step-up over past shows in various ways.
However, Geoff Keighley’s latest poll shows that most fans aren’t too happy with the overall results. Indeed, a majority of the fans seem to have graded The Game Awards 2025 a ‘D’ overall.

Staying true to his usual tradition, Geoff Keighley uploaded a poll on Twitter following The Game Awards to gather fan feedback on the show. This poll has garnered over 245K votes at the time of writing, and over 36% of viewers have rated the show a ‘D or Below.’ This would mean that roughly 88K viewers have picked this grade.
Less than 20% of overall viewers thought The Game Awards deserved an ‘A’ this year, and around 45% of all viewers thought a ‘B’ or ‘C’ was most appropriate for the show. However, when looking at each grade individually, the biggest subset of viewers picked the worst option.
Delving further into the criticisms, a common talking point appears to be the closing title of this year’s event. Many believe the hero-shooter Highguard from Respawn was a poor selection compared to past show closers like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from Naughty Dog.
Viewers also criticized the prevalence of gacha games throughout the show, with the likes of Genshin Impact showing up quite frequently. Elsewhere, many pointed out that deserving nominations like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were snubbed for the Best Adaptation award.
Because The Game Awards are highly divisive each year, Geoff Keighley is no stranger to such criticism. The discourse over Game of the Year and other awards aside, it’s never easy for such an event to please fans on all fronts due to the challenges of balancing engaging game reveals and awards within the limited time allotted to the event each year.
Nonetheless, it seems The Game Awards 2025 have not been a unanimous hit despite some undeniably strong moments throughout the show.
