Following a departure from the Greek era, Santa Monica Studio took God of War to the Norse realms, completely revamping the franchise and taking it to newer heights.

With both sagas now concluded and fans looking forward to what comes next for God of War, many have also discussed which of the two eras of the series is superior. While fans continue to go back and forth, a recent poll shows the Greek God of War saga coming out on top.

God of War Greek vs Norse Saga

A recent poll on Resetera attracted nearly 2,000 votes and asked whether fans prefer the Greek or Norse God of War saga. The results show a nearly 50-50 split between the two, but it seems the Greek saga has won over the fans.

Discussing the poll, many users in the thread pointed out that the Greek era of the series left a bigger impact due to its more grandiose and over-the-top nature. Many also criticized the pacing of the Norse saga, particularly in God of War Ragnarok.

Moreover, fans praised the iconic moments and boss battles in games like God of War 2 and 3, with Kratos’ face-offs against the likes of Poseidon staying iconic all these years later. Those on the other side of the fence appreciated God of War 2018 and its sequel for their storytelling.

Fans of the Norse era discussed how Santa Monica Studio’s franchise matured in these games and excelled in the presentation department. Those fond of the recent God of War formula also stated that the Greek trilogy hasn’t aged as well as many believe.

Ultimately, however, the poll makes it clear that fans still love both styles of God of War, even if some prefer one over the other. With PlayStation working on remakes of the Greek saga and Santa Monica Studio rumored to be making a new mainline entry, the series will continue to appeal to both fans moving forward. This is probably for the best since fans seem keen on both formulas to this day.
