Grand Theft Auto V is a game that just keeps on going. As GTA Online continues to host a healthy player base, Rockstar Games refuses to stop supporting it. Now the PC version of GTA 5 has seen a new upgrade that brings DLSS, FSR, and Ray Tracing features. However, with the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced on PC, players are experiencing issues like random in-game crashes. I have curated the best fixes that will resolve the GTA 5 Enhanced in-game crash issues on PC.
GTAV Enhanced Gameplay Crash Fixes That Work
PC users report that GTA 5 is crashing randomly while playing in singleplayer and GTA Online. There are multiple reasons for the game to crash to the desktop during gameplay like, unlocked FPS, ray tracing features being turned on, overclock graphics hardware, and more. The following fixes will resolve the in-game crash issue in GTA V.
Fix #1 – Turn Off Ray Tracing
The addition of Ray Tracing is one of the upgrades that PC users get with GTA 5 Enhanced. However, it is causing the game to crash during gameplay. Ray Tracing is a very demanding graphical feature to enable and puts a lot of load on the GPU and CPU. To fix the Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced crashes during gameplay, disable Ray Tracing. Open the game’s settings, go to the “Graphics” tab, and disable the “Enable Ray Tracing” option. Apply the changes, play GTA V Enhanced, and it won’t crash during gameplay.

Fix #2 – Limit GTA V’s Max Frame Rate
There is no question that playing games at an unlocked FPS is a much better experience as a whole. However, it also puts a lot of load on the GPU and CPU, which results in games crashing during gameplay. If you are playing Grand Theft Auto 5 at an unlocked or high frame rate, then it is causing the in-game crashes. You fix the issue by limiting the game’s max frame rate. You can either enable vsync, use the in-game FPS limiter, or use the Nvidia App or Control Panel to restrict the GTA 5’s max FPS. Here is how you can limit the game’s FPS:
Enable Vertical Synchronization (Vsync)
If you have disavled the “Vsync” option in the game’s graphics settings, it is the cause for the GTA 5 in-game crash issue. Enable Vsync and the game’s FPS will be restricted to your display’s refresh rate, which will fix the crashes. Open the Grand Theft Auto V’s settings, go to the “Graphics” tab > enable Vsync.

Use GTA 5’s In-Game FPS Limiter
The game has its own FPS limiter in the graphics menu that allows players to set an FPS limit. Enable the “Frame Limit” option in the “Graphics” tab to fix the in-game crash issue with the game.

Use Nvidia App
The in-game frame rate limiter doesn’t allows for a granular control over GTA 5’s FPS. You can use the Nvidia App to have a granular control over the game’s FPS.
- Open the Nvidia App and select the “Graphics” tab.
- Select “Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced” from the list of games.
- Scroll down the options and clock on “Max Frame Rate”.
- Turn it on and set a value for it.
- Play the game and the in-game crash issue is now fixed.
Use Nvidia Control Panel
If you don’t have Nvidia App installed on your PC, then Nvidia Control Panel is another option that you can use to limit GTA 5’s max frame rate and still have granular control over its FPS, and fix the in-game crash issue.
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel.
- Click the “Manage 3D Settings” option from the left menu.
- Click the “Program settings” tab.
- Select “Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced” from the list.
- Scroll through the option and find the “Max Frame Rate” option.
- Enable it and set a value for it.
- Play the game, and it won’t crash randomly while in-game.

Helpful Tip: Unless you are playing the game on a Gsync or Freesync display, the frame rate value should be 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4th of your display refresh rate, otherwise, the game will feel jittery.
Fix #3 – Disable GPU overclock or Use the Debug Mode
If you have overclocked your graphics card to get more performance in GTA 5, then it is the reason for the in-game crash issue. While overclocking can give a boost in performance, it also makes gaming an unstable experience in some scenarios. Revert the graphics card to its default GPU and Memory clocks to fix the crashes.
In case you haven’t overclocked your graphics card, chances are it is either factory-overclocked or uses higher GPU and Memory clocks than reference models. Most GPUs from Nvidia AIB partners, like ASUS or GIGABYTE, are either factory-overclocked or have slightly higher clocks. This is why GTA 5 keeps crashing during gameplay, and you can fix this issue by enabling the Debug Mode in the Nvidia Control Panel.
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel.
- Click the “Help” button in the top menu.
- Select the “Debug Mode” option.
- Play Grand Theft Auto 5 and the in-game crashes are now fixed.

Fix # 4 – Disable All In-game Overlays
An in-game overlay is now a staple of every gaming-related software or app on PC, and it’s useful too. It allows players to access features or see notifications while playing a game. However, in-game overlays interfere with games and cause them to crash during gameplay. Here is how to disable different overlays on PC to fix the crashes:
Discord
- Go to User Settings.
- Open the “Game Overlay” tab.
- Turn off the “Enable In-game overlay” options.
Steam
- Open Steam settings.
- Select the “In Game” tab.
- Turn off the “Enable the Steam overlay while in-game” option.

Nvidia App
- Open the Nvidia App and open Settings.
- Go to the “Features” tab.
- Disable “Nvidia Overlay”.

Geforce Experience
PC users that use GeForce Experience can disable its overlay by clicking the Gear (settings) Icon right next to the username. Click General and turn off “IN-GAME OVERLAY”.
