Helldivers 2 became PlayStation’s biggest release on PC earlier last year, and the third-person shooter continues to hold this title today. Following a huge launch, the game is still going strong, receiving constant updates and support from Arrowhead Game Studios.
In fact, Arrowhead Game Studios’ recent update marks one of the biggest changes to the game yet. The studio has confirmed that it has worked with Nixxes to drastically reduce Helldivers 2’s file size on PC, with the third-person shooter now taking up 85% less storage on PC.

Sharing the encouraging update on Steam, Arrowhead Game Studios noted that its latest update reduces Helldivers 2’s required storage by 131GB. The game now takes up just 23GB on PC.
The team noted that it had already been gradually reducing the file size over the last few updates, but the latest patch has brought the biggest change yet. Moreover, such a drastic change has been made possible thanks to Arrowhead Game Studios’ collaboration with Nixxes.
According to the blog post, the team is ready to roll out this update in public beta form. Also, this update does not appear to significantly impact load times for players using mechanical hard drives, making the situation even better for Helldivers 2 players on PC.
Arrowhead Game Studios states that the third-person shooter will soon be updated for everyone once any remaining issues in the latest patch are ironed out after the public beta. Moreover, players will be given the choice to opt in to the legacy version for a limited time while remaining problems are ironed out.
Because Helldivers 2 already required less storage on PS5, this update is a welcome change to the PC version. With both Nixxes and Arrowhead Game Studios working together, things will only change for the better moving forward.
