Larian Studios has been in hot water ever since it confirmed the use of generative AI in Divinity. The situation has become so bad that a game like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has also been dragged into the conversation, leading to doubts about the greater implications of artificial intelligence in games.
A Baldur’s Gate 3 developer has also come forward to share her thoughts on the subject. She claims that despite what Larian Studios is telling the media, the staff is not okay with using AI.

Over on Twitter, Hanner, who has previously worked on Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 at Larian Studios, claimed that Swen Vincke is lying.
In a recent interview with Kotaku, the studio’s CEO claimed that the team does not have any real contentions with how generative AI is being used at the moment.
“I think at this point everyone at the company is more or less OK with the way we’re using it.” – Swen Vincke
The former Larian Studios developer claims that people are unlikely to be okay with the use of a technology that is being pushed upon them. She also pointed out that using AI to such an extent is ironic after the studio developed a solid reputation for being one of the best developers in the industry.

Elsewhere, another ex-Larian Studios developer on BSKY shared similar anti-AI sentiments. According to the developer, who left two years ago, the team needs to shift focus and treat its employees with more respect.
It’s hard to say whether this is how everyone else working on Divinity also feels. However, these posts do make it clear that not everyone at Larian Studios is likely to be happy with the team’s current direction, even if they accept the use of generative AI.
The good news, for now, is that Swen Vincke has promised that AI-generated content won’t show up in the final game. However, many artists still feel that any and all generative AI use in the creation process of games is bad news for the industry.
