Following its initial debut in 2001, Devil May Cry remains one of Capcom’s most beloved franchises to date. Despite not receiving a new title in over six years at this point, the series is still going strong thanks to a dedicated fandom and its excellent action gameplay.
Fortunately, Capcom recently confirmed intentions to focus on the DMC IP and support it with new releases. This news garnered the interest of Japanese developer Hideki Kamiya, who has once again expressed interest in returning to the series.

Hideki Kamiya was the director behind the original Devil May Cry and laid much of the foundation that helped make the series what it is today. Although his take on the franchise was very different from what it has become today, his influence is still prevalent throughout the series’ core themes.
Capcom recently noted that it would revitalize core IPs, namely Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Phoenix Wright, with new works and remakes. Responding to a recent tweet regarding Capcom’s statement, Hideki Kamiya noted that he now feels like joining whatever Capcom has planned for the DMC IP.
The director is currently working with Capcom on the Okami sequel, so this collaboration would not be the most unexpected. However, Hideki Kamiya also suggested that the Japanese publisher is being stingy with the IP, supposedly hinting that potential talks of such a collaboration have fallen through in the past.
Also, this is not the first time Hideki Kamiya has discussed a potential return to the series he helped create in 2001. He has talked about working on a potential remake of Dante’s very first adventure on multiple occasions, something that fans have also wanted.
Anywho, with Hideaki Itsuno no longer leading action games at the studio, Hideki Kamiya’s insights on the subject could prove invaluable if he is given the chance to work on Devil May Cry again. Since 2001, the director has taken on action game projects like Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101, extending his legacy further among the greats of action gaming.
