You can choose to join either House Atreides or House Harkonnen in your quest in Dune: Awakening. Many players often hastily join a faction or house without thinking about its impact on the gameplay, storylines, and endgame.

However, the good news is that you can switch your faction, but you will have to pay a price for it. And if you are comfortable betraying your kin, Dune: Awakening will let you do it, but only once.

This is what I am here for. I will explain in detail how to change your faction in Dune: Awakening and join the other one.

How to Switch House or Faction in Dune: Awakening

StepAction
1Travel to Anvil Outpost (Vermillius Gap)
2Speak to the appropriate faction NPC (Tolliver or Kazmir; alternates: Piter de Vries or Thufir Hawat)
3Confirm betrayal—irreversible move
4Enjoy reputation transfer, new faction rewards, but lose contracts, guilds, and former territory access

The process is quite simple and straightforward. All you have to do is go to the Vermillius Gap region on the map and reach the Anvil Outpost.

There you can speak to the representative of the opposing faction. Maxim Kazmir is the representative of the House Harkonnen, while Lt. Tolliver represents Atreides.

By speaking with the rep of the opposing house, you can officially join the other house.

Sometimes Kazmir or Tolliver may not offer you the option to change your faction in Dune: Awakening. This might happen due to a bug in the game, but you can speak to two NPCs to change the faction.

Players that want to join Atreides by betraying Harkonnen, speak to Piter de Vries. You can find him in front of the Harko faction vendor at Harko’s landing zone.

If you are betraying Harkonnen and joining Atreides, talk to Thufir Hawat, who is located near the Ornithopter landing zone.

What Happens After You Betray Your Faction in Dune: Awakening

Once you officially become the member of the other house, you will have to face some consequences. Firstly, traitors are banned from joining the faction they left. Secondly, they aren’t allowed inside the betrayed faction’s land. Thirdly, all the faction-related guilds will be a no-go area for you, and lastly, all the contracts will be instantly cancelled.

As far as the cosmetic items of other faction are concerned, you can get them from the traders of opposing factions in your current faction’s capital city. But that’s not all; all unfinished contracts related to the betrayed faction are ended and can’t be completed anymore.

However, not everything is bad though. You can still purchase weapons, armor, and faction related items from traders of both factions even when you switch. Moreover, your faction reputation level transfer 1:1 to the new faction so you won’t have to start from scratch at your new home.

This betrayal is a one-time, irreversible choice per character, often used by players seeking access to both factions’ rewards or for strategic PvP or roleplay reasons.

I suggest you complete any pending faction rewards or quests before betraying, especially if you’re on rank 5. The decision can not be undone so think it through.
