Building roads in Europa Universalis V not only helps in trading, building relationships, and army movement, but also is part of your infrastructure network. It strengthens your internal control in each province.
In each province, it has a Proximity value that keeps track of how connected ou are to the capital and other administrative centres.
So to have a better proximity, you need to build roads from one province to the other to have better proximity of that province in How To Build Roads In Europa Universalis V.
Better-connected Province has:
- More tax revenue actually reaches your treasury
- Levies and manpower respond faster in wartime
- Revolts are less likely
- Trade and movement become more efficient
Roads directly reduce proximity costs between connected provinces, improving Control across your empire.
Europa Universalis V Roads Guide
To build roads in EU5, follow these steps
- Select the province on the map from where you want to build a road.

- On the left side of the screen, in the infrastructure menu, click on Roads. A drop-down menu will show whether there is already a road there, or if you want to build a new one from there. Before you select the destination, on the left side of the menu, you get the option of what kind of road you want to build.
- Gravel road
- Paved road
- Modern road
- Rail road
- Then select the location on the map where you want to build the road to.

You can also check the progress of the road construction from the construction tab. After the road is complete, proximity will decrease, giving you more control of the province.
