Grounded 2 has an extensive upgrade system and a lot of the upgrades require one common resource, Brittle Whetstone. They are a little to find because they don’t respawn but don’t worry, there is always a solution. In this guide, you’ll find the crafting recipe that lets you craft endless Brittle Whetstone as long as you have Sap and Larva Spikes, two common resources found on the map.
How to Get Brittle Whetstone in Grounded 2
In the current version of Grounded 2, Brittle Quartzite Shards and Brittle Marble Shards are essential materials used to craft Whetstones and Armor Plating, which are necessary for gear upgrades.
The stones you mine in the world don’t respawn anymore. Once you clear out a mine, that’s it.
That means your ability to upgrade tools, weapons, and armor becomes severely limited, unless you unlock an alternative method.
Luckily, there’s a workaround in Grounded 2 that’ll get you a ton of Brittle Whetstone. There are two special discs hidden in the game world. If you find and use one, it unlocks the ability to craft Brittle Whetstones at your workbench.
Once unlocked, you can create Brittle Whetstones using:
- 1x Sap
- 1x Larva Spike
This makes upgrades much more accessible, though you’ll still need to hunt larva. To craft Brittle Whetstones, you’ll first need to find the Smitty Disc.
Smitty Disc Location in Grounded 2
The disc at the Ice Cream cart will unlock the recipe you need to start crafting unlimited Brittle Whetstone, Brittle Quartzite Shards and Brittle Marble in Grounded 2 as long as you have Sap and Larva Spike.
The Disc needs to be looted off a body in the Ice Cream Cart area.
Start on top of the ice cream cart and locate the side entrance near the ice. It’s easy to miss, so look carefully. Once inside, stick to the left path and proceed deeper into the tunnels.
Now you will find yourself in the heart of the ice cream truck. Stick to the right and jump down. There is a tunnel you can enter where the marker is showing in the image below.
Cross the tunnel to enter an open area and then take the next tunnel.
Keep following the path and then take the right tunnel from the giant fork.
When you exit this tunnel, jump over all the spilled ice cream to keep heading straight. To your right will be an ice cream cone, enter it and when you exit it from the other side, you’ll see the body that has the Brittle Whetstone crafting recipe disc.
With the recipe unlocked you can now craft Brittle Whetstone from Sap and Larva Spike.
