Favor is a core resource in Age of Mythology Retold. There is no such thing as overstating its importance. This does differ from resource elements such as Wood, Water, Food, and Gold which you can farm for yourself or easily spawn with my cheat code guide.
In Retold, unlike the original game, there’s no fixed cap on Favor, though repeated use of god powers will cost more Favor over time.
How to Earn Favor in Age of Mythology ReTold
Civilization | Favor Generation Method | Key Points |
---|---|---|
Greeks | Construct Temples and assign villagers to pray | More praying villagers increase Favor, but with diminishing returns. |
Egyptians | Erect Monuments | 5 progressively powerful Monuments available; first generates 10 Favor/second. |
Atlanteans | Deploy stationary Oracle units | More Oracles increase Favor/minute; upgrade to Heroes for enhanced generation. |
Norse | Inflict damage on enemies with Norse units | Each unit has a Favor bounty cap; Hersir and Longboats are efficient generators. |
Chinese | Favor is earned through “Favored Lands” | Build your base larger but keep new buildings connected to your hub. |
How to Earn Favor as the Chinese
For the Chinese civilization in Age of Mythology: Retold, you don’t gather Favor by praying or through combat — you generate it via a mechanic called Favored Land.
Every building you erect gives off an aura. When that aura connects back to your town center (turning your building’s aura your player color), it becomes part of your Favored Land. The more continuous territory you cover with this aura, the faster you’ll generate Favor over time.
Build your base larger but keep new buildings connected to your hub. Disjointed or incomplete structures will not generate Favor (represented by an aura). It’s important to plan your base layout to create a big, contiguous area.
How to Earn Favor as the Greeks
Create temples and get your villagers to pray in them. It only will cost 150 wood and 150 gold to build each temple. Build the Temple as quickly as possible to begin receiving Favor from it.
Your villagers can be assigned to collect wood but you can also use console commands to spawn as much wood as you want.
How to Earn Favor as the Egyptians
If you are playing as the Egyptians, you need to build Monuments. You can build 5 Monuments in total if you’re playing as the Egyptians. Each Monument adds to your Favor deposits.
Monument | Required Materials |
---|---|
Monument to Villagers | 50 Food, 50 Gold |
Monument to Soldiers | 75 Food, 75 Gold |
Monument to Priests | 150 Food, 150 Gold |
Monument to Pharaohs | 200 Food, 200 Gold |
Monument to Gods | 700 Food, 700 Gold |
Once you manage to gather enough resources you can assign villagers to start building Monuments.
How to Earn Favor as the Atlanteans
Favor is what Atlanteans earn through their Oracle Units. You can build more Oracles at the Temple for 40 Food and 60 Gold. But make sure you have enough population room to welcome them.
Oracles generate Favor when they are stationary. When an Oracle is standing still, it produces 0.08 Favor per second. However, this rate can increase if the Oracle is upgraded to a Hero.
Remember that each Oracle has a fixed radius where they generate Favor. If the areas of two Oracles overlap, their Favor production will suffer so avoid doing this. Pay attention to their placements.
Upgrading Oracles to Heroes increases their Favor generation. Convert Oracles to Hero Oracles for 40 Food, 60 Gold, and 1 Favor. Their production will increase to 0.11 Favor per second.
Stationary Oracle Units are susceptible to attack as they need protection, which means Favor production is negatively affected when they are attacked. Placing a couple of military units around them can help protect them.
Lastly, some technologies can increase the Favor Production as you move from one Age to another.
How to Earn Favor as the Norse
If you happen to be playing as the Norse civilization in Age of Mythology there is no other way you can gain Favor aside from fighting.
Favor is generated each time a Norse unit damages (excluding walls) an enemy unit or building.
The amount of Favor gained varies depending on the target:
- Wonders yield the highest Favor.
- Important and production buildings provide a significant amount.
- Cheaper buildings, heroes, and strong myth units offer moderate Favor.
- Human units, minor myth units, boats, and siege weapons generate less Favor.
- Weak animals provide the least Favor.
Hersirs are unique Norse units that can be produced from the Temple. They generate a small amount of Favor passively (0.01 Favor per second) and are effective in combat.
- Cost: Each Hersir costs 80 Food, 40 Gold, and occupies 3 population slots.
If playing as Thor, you can research the Hammer of Thunder technology, which doubles the Favor generated by Hersirs to 0.02 Favor per second. This technology costs 125 Gold and 10 Favor and can be researched at the Great Hall.
During the early parts of the game, focus on building your military force as soon as possible. Scouting enemies and launching small raids can yield Favor. I can’t confirm this at the moment, but I think hunting also builds favor. Test it out for yourself to see if that’s true.
