To catch a Sandstar in Monster Hunter Wilds is not as easy as catching Gravid Bowfin or other species. The Sandstar likes to hid itself whenever you try to approach it so catching it becomes trickier.

The Sandstar spawns exclusively in the Windward Plains but certain conditions much be met.

Monster Hunter Wilds Sandstar Location

Change the time of day to nighttime and change the season of Plenty.

Sandstars are exclusive to the Windward Plains, where they occupy the sandy areas of the Windward Plains’ 11th, 13th, and 15th zones.

These nocturnals only appear at night during Plenty or Fallow. To improve your odds, head out searching early in the evening. If the Sandstar fails to spawn, rest until the next night or change the time in your tent.

How to Catch Sandstar in MH Wilds

Sandstars are very fast and react to noise, so they can be very difficult to approach. In order to combat this, you’re going to want Screamer Pods to stun them.

You can obtain these pods by your Hook Slinger, collecting Echo Feathers from a small flying monster known as Baunos found at areas like 4 and 11 in the daytime in the Windward Plains.

Before moving towards that possible Sandstar site make sure you load the Screamer Pod into the Slinger.

Look for a glowing blue critter speeding through the sand dunes in the marked-off sections. Keep a safe distance so you don’t scare it away.

Get lined up from a distance, aim your Slinger, and fire your Screamer Pod into the vicinity of the Sandstar to stop it. This will make it roll on the ground for a moment.

Switch to your Capture Net quickly and aim at the dazed Sandstar. When the reticle goes yellow-orange, shoot the net to enfranchise it. Time is short as the stun effect does not last long.
