Its been a long time since The Expanse came out but the game is still not working as it should on Steam Deck.

There is still no official solution to its problems but to fix The Expanse: A Telltale Series on Steam Deck there are a few things you can try.

Some fixes and tweaks help deal with crashing and particularly with the C++ Runtime error that happens most of the time when launching the game through the Heroic Games Launcher.

Fix #1: Install The Expanse Through Heroic

If you haven’t already, install the Heroic Games Launcher on your Steam Deck. This is necessary since The Expanse is available through the Epic Games Store, not Steam.

A clean install can fix some of the problems this game is facing since launch on Steam Deck.

To do this, you need to switch to Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck.

Open the Heroic Games Launcher and log in with your Epic Games account to access your library.

Find The Expanse in your library inside the Heroic Launcher and Install it. The next step is to choose a Wine version (Proton Experimental is recommended).

If you encounter a C++ runtime error upon attempting to launch the game, this is a common issue that can be resolved.

Fix #2: C++ Runtime Error Fix

In Heroic Launcher, click on the three-bar icon in the top right corner to access additional settings. You need to select Winetricks, which is a tool that helps manage Windows libraries needed for games.

Through the Winetricks tool you need to to install the necessary Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables that The Expanse requires. This will resolve the C++ error for The Expanse.
