The ASUS ROG Ally has a serious amount of power, but there is one thing it doesn’t have that the Steam Deck does – a built in performance overlay. In this quick guide I will help you get started with installing a Steam Deck Performance Overlay on Asus ROG Ally and Ally X.

Luckily it’s possible to replicate the Steam Deck’s overlay with Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS) and HWINFO64.

First, download both tools from their official websites (linked above) and then run the installers and follow on-screen instructions.

From there, check the boxes for the metrics you want to monitor (for example, CPU/GPU temps, usage, RAM, FPS).

Open HWINFO64 and click Sensors → Configure.

I recommend the following settings for HWINFO64:

And for RTSS I recommend the following settings:

Now click on the blue “Setup” button in RTSS and check both options from the Plugins tab:

Now double click the Overlay Editor, go to Data Sources tab and click on Edit. Manually add all of the data sources you see below:

Now we download the custom overlay for Asus ROG Ally. Here is a dropbox link where you can download the layout.

It is a .zip folder, extract the file and go back to the layout editor. Click on “Layout” and select the “Load” option.

Select the file we downloaded and unzipped earlier and add load it. You can then go to the Armoury Crate and set hotkeys through the Gamepad Mode in the Control Mode option.
