What are cores used for in Frostpunk 2 and where do you find them? These are two questions that immediately come to mind when I reached a certain point in my city’s development.

It wasn’t immediately clear, but I figured out that you need to exploration outside New London to find cores; just like fuel and other resources.

How to Get Cores in Frostpunk 2

Cores are located in the Frostland, which is the area surrounding your city. They are remnants from a pre-apocalyptic civilization.

The first step to exploring the Frostland is to build Logistics Districts at the edges of your city. Each district allows you to create Frostland Teams that will be sent on expeditions.

Expanding your teams and upgrading districts should on top of your list. By upgrading these districts with Scout Headquarters, you can increase the number of teams available for exploration.

Once you establish Frostland Teams, the next step is to click on various nodes outside New London. Each node represents a different potential finding, including resources like coal, prefabs, and importantly, Cores.

Look for blue icons next to “Possible Findings.” The icon representing Cores resembles a small lantern. Hovering over it will confirm that Cores may be present at that location.

Once you find a promising node that can yield some Cores, send the Forstland Teams to explore the node and extract cores.

Expeditions take time, so manage your city’s resources carefully while teams are out.

How Many Cores You Get Per Node

The number of cores you get per node vary but usually nodes yield very small quantities of cores; often just one or two per successful expedition—and are usually located in regions marked as Dangerous or Deadly, requiring 20 or 25 Frostland Teams respectively.

Once you unlock locations like Winterhome, where larger deposits of Cores can be found. However, you need to wait till chapter 4 for this to get access to these areas

What Are Cores Used For

They are necessary for constructing advanced buildings and upgrading the city’s generator.

Since they are really hard to find, I highly recommend you use cores judiciously due to their scarcity; focus on building critical technologies that upgrade your city’s survival capabilities during harsh conditions.
