The Dodge abulity is one of the most important abilitie to have to ensure surivial in MIO: Memories in Orbit. Dodge is different from optional upgrades or passive enhancements, Dodge in fact, is a mandatory progression ability that fundamentally changes how the game’s combat and treversal work.

The good thing is that you can’t misss the Dodge ability permanently but MIO: Memories in Orbit doesn’t clearly announce when and where to unlock the Dodge ability. This leads to players missing on it in early sections of the game.

Where to Find the Dodge Ability in MIO

The Dodge ability is obtained during your first major progression through the Aviaries, a mid-early game biome that becomes accessible after advancing through the Spine and defeating Flora. This ability is not tied to a boss drop, crafting system, or skill tree. Instead, it is unlocked through a Strange Tube interaction, which functions as the game’s primary method of granting core abilities.

After you defeat Flora and get the Aviaries Passeparttout, the Aviaries is unlocked as a fully accessible region. As you explore more of this new region the game’s enemies become more aggressive and faster which is a game design meant to pressure the player who are still only relying on jumping and positioning.

Where to Find Silo Access Badge

Aviaries Passeparttout is right behind Flora, you can pick it up after defeating the boss. But know that you need the Silo badge to open the gate to the right of the Nexus Overseer to keep progressing in Feral Undergrowth and the Aviaries Passparttout.

Interacting with the tube takes you to a contained training sequence rather than a combat encounter or cutscene. The game temporarily isolates Mio in a controlled space designed specifically to teach the Dodge mechanic.

During this sequence, you are introduced to Dodge through direct player input rather than dialogue exposition.

After unlocking the Dodge upgrade there is no cooldown uppgrade or stamina system attached to the it. The only time it doesn’t work is when you fail to time it correctly. Success with Dodge in MIO: Memories in Orbit depends on player reaction and positioning.

You can leave Aviaries right after unlocking Dodge if you wish to. The abiliity remains available in all regions of the game after it’s unlocked.

How to Use Dodge in MIO: Memories in Orbit

Press R on PC or B/Triangle button on console controllers to use the Dodge ability in MIO. However, timing is key and the best use of this ability is to use like a parry becasue that’s how it works.

It needs to be executed when you are under attack. The tutorial gives a pretty nice breakdown of the timing so don’t skip it when interacting with the Strange Tube.

Dodge grants Mio a short burst of horizontal movement paired with a brief window of invulnerability. During this invulnerability window, Mio can pass directly through enemy hitboxes, projectiles, and certain environmental hazards without taking damage.
