The procedurally generated Road 96 always keeps you on your toes but there are some things that remain the same throughout your playthroughs. For example, the location of the gas station car keys in Road 96 hasn’t changed.
When your reach the abandoned gas station in the middle of nowhere you will see a parked car but there are no keys nearby.
You can completely ignore the car and move on to the next area but getting the car means you unlock the ability to drive which then leads to some twists and turns of its own.
Road 96 Gas Station Car Keys Location
The gas station car keys are inside the station itself. Inside the gas station office, you will find a political poster that promotes a presidential candidate.
Behind this poster there is a locked safe that has the car keys. However, you need the rail gun to shoot the poster before it can reveal the safe.
To get the nail gun you need to speak with Alex inside the gas station. After your conversation you can pick up the nail gun he hands over.
Use that nail gun to shoot the poster and expose the safe. You can either hack the safe or use the safe codes to unlock it.
The gas station safe code is 1218. Or you can hack it using the hacking ability.
What to do with the Gas Station Car Keys in Road 96
After acquiring the car keys, you can use them to unlock and drive away in the abandoned vehicle at the gas station. This option allows for quicker travel.
But before you can use the car you need to help Alex fix the generation and find the generator key.
Follow the red wire that runs up into the ceiling; this will lead you to the generator. The generator is located in a small maintenance room outside the main building.
To activate the generator, you need to find a Generator Key, which is secured inside an electrified cage. Alex will give you a magnet that allows you to retrieve this key without getting shocked.
Once you have the Generator Key, return to the generator and unlock it.
