When you first start playing News Tower you will notice that you don’t really have access to the cool Photograph tags in News Tower. It is an annoying thing to deal with, but you are not alone in that. They are great and can really help with sales but you won’t get them until you have someone with the Photography skill.
But worry not, I will help you unlock the Photograph skill in News Tower.
How to Unlock Photograph Skill in News Tower
To get the Photograph Skill in News Tower you first need to unlock a path to Nassau Photo Academy. The location you should be looking for is on the right side of the map. Once you manage to unlock this location all you have to do is click on it to get the Photography skill in News Tower.
This gets you access to the Photographers Desk and the Darkroom stations, but you can’t use them until you build them.
Make sure to build one of each station and get the staff to work on them. A little thing to note here is that the Darkroom needs to be in the dark so be mindful of that. To develop photo negatives into photos. Must be in real darkness (i.e. not just “dark-themed room” but actually unlit / blackout) to function properly.
Additionally, you need support stations for processing the photo into printable format: a Repro Camera and a Chemical Engraver. Together this full “photo chain” allows photo + printing.
The minimum “fit out” cost for enabling photos is roughly $6500 minus comfort, space, power, and you also need to plan enough floor/space.
Recommendation: Early on, clear out (or reserve) a full floor for your photo chain: darkroom + repro + engraver + (optional) assembly/adjacent stations. This avoids noise / smell interference with other floors.
As for the staff, make sure to get people that have Photography skill or ideally Photography and some other useful skill that will make stories pop.
From there you need to make sure whenever a news item comes in with the “Photograph’ tag assign a photographer to it early, asap because otherwise you might end up missing the deadline.
