Copper and Iron Plates are two of the building blocks of early crafting in Dawn Apart, so you’ll use them a lot. From simple machines to the first steps up the tech tree, every new project seems to call for more of each.
Start by collecting Copper Ore and Iron Ore from the nearby surface nodes. They pop up all around your starting zone, so mining them doesn’t take long at all. Once you have a solid stash, you might want to set up a mining drill. That way the ore keeps coming in while you focus on other tasks, and your pickaxe gets a well-earned break.
Dawn Apart Copper and Iron Plates Crafting Recipe
Before those ores can be shaped into plates, you need to melt them down into ingots. The process looks like this:
- Granite Ore: Dig up a few pieces; you’ll need them for Furnace blocks.
- Stonemasonry Workbench: Use this handy bench to turn Granite Ore into Granite Blocks.
- Furnace: Craft a Furnace by combining several Granite Blocks. One furnace will soon feel too slow, so plan ahead.
For smelting, each recipe takes about five seconds in the Furnace:
- 2 Copper Ore → 1 Copper Ingot
- 2 Iron Ore → 1 Iron Ingot
Aim to set up four or more Furnaces. With that many working at once, you’ll keep a steady flow of ingots and never hit that frustrating production bottleneck.
Once you build up a good stash of ingots, you can start making plates with an Industrial Cutter. Before that, though, you have to unlock the cutter itself. Head over to the Mechanical Workbench and craft one. Each cutter takes 80 copper ingots and 80 iron ingots, so plan to smelt enough if you want two of them.
Next we will craft the plates and for that you need:
- 2x Copper Ingots → 1x Copper Plate
- 2x Iron Ingots → 1x Iron Plate
- Craft time: 5 seconds per plate
I recommend a 2:1 ratio of Furnaces to Industrial Cutters to make sure the ingot supply keeps up with demand. If you want to mass produce Copper and Iron Plates, double your Furnaces and Cutters to maximum your output.
