Remember when we manually updated Zenless Zane Zero to a newer version? We are going to use the exact same process update Genshin Impact as well.
To manually update you need to be on version 5.2 of Genshin Impact. You’ll need the patch link (game files) and an audio pack in the language you prefer. Lastly, make sure your HoYoPlay Launcher is updated to the latest version.

Open the HoYoPlay Launcher and select Genshin Impact. You can check for launcher updates by going to settings and clicking on Check for Updates option.
Basically, you need to start the game update, pause it, and then replace the game files with the files you download from the links above. Here’s a brief summary if you are already familiar with the process:
- Start Genshin Impact launcher and start the update 5.3 (Preinstall or update)
- Pause the update after 5-10 seconds
- Close the launcher
- Delete temporary download files (audio and game)
- Replace the downloaded update files and audio pack
- Open the launcher and restart the update to complete
How to Manually Update Genshin Impact
Open the Genshin Impact game launcher aka aka HoYoPlay. Depending on what you see, click on “Pre-install” or “Update.”
Once the update begins wait for 5-10 seconds before you pause it by clicking on the tiny play button.
Completely exit the launcher. You can check the Task Manager to make sure that it is not running in the background.
Open File Explorer and navigate to where Genshin Impact is installed. The default path is usually:
C:\Program Files\Genshin Impact\Genshin Impact Game\Inside your installation folder, locate and delete any existing folders named chunk and staging. This ensures a clean installation of the new files.
Now it is time to download the necessary patch files for version 5.3, and audio packs (e.g., English, Japanese voice packs) from the links I have shared above.
Use a reliable download manager like Internet Download Manager (IDM) or Free Download Manager (FDM) to avoid file corruption.
An important thing to note here is that you MUST only download the audio packs you have previously installed (e.g English) to avoid breaking the game.
Note: Do not extract any downloaded zip files.
Once downloaded, move all of your patch files (the zip files) into your Genshin Impact installation folder. Now you need to launch the HoyoPlay launcher.
If you are still in the pre-installation phase, click on Game Pre-Installation to finalize any remaining setup.
