Scouts are a brand new mechanic in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and with them you can gather intel on your targets and objectives.
With each objective in Assassin’s Creed Shadows you get three vague clues as I have already discussed my other guides about this game. The clues lead you to a general area of the objective but then you have to find your way.
The best way to not waste time or get frustrated looking for the target you should recruit scouts.
Scouts are folks you can find through side quests and world events. You can save them or help them in other ways and then ask them to gather intel for you when they try to repay your generosity.
At a time you send out all available Scouts.
How to Use Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Open the World Map and at the bottom left of the screen you’ll the “Scouts” section. Each dot represents a Scouts and as you can see in the image, I currently have three Scouts available.
Note: You can recruit as many Scouts as you want but you can only use Scouts depending on how many Slots you have unlocked. You can upgrade Kakurega in your hideout to add a Study to unlock more Scout slots in AC Shadows.
Pick at area you want to scout, for example, the general location of your target and press X on Xbox or Square on PlayStation.
Use the triggers to select how many Scouts you want to send; you can send a maximum of three but I recommend sending only one because they cover a decent amount of area. Sending all three in the same spot is a waste.
Press confirm button to send out the Scout. If they manage to find the objective you will see it on the map.
However, it will still be a general area and not the exact location of the target. Hold the left Trigger (LT / R2) when you get to the marked area to investigate the surrounding and you should be able to spot the objective.

How to Refill Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
When you use all three of your Scouts you’ll be out of Scouts. But you refill them but each Scout costs 200 to Refill, meaning three cost 600 and so on depending on how many slots you have.
Kakurega is an Assassin hideout in most towns you’ll visit in Shadows. You can refill supplies like tools and rations as well as Scouts at a Kakurega.
However, you first need to unlock these locations. Thankfully, you don’t have to run around looking for them to unlock. They are marked on the map (see images) and all you need is to spend some money from the World map to unlock Kakurega.
How to Recruit Scouts in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Scouts are recruited through side quests and random world events where you usually help out a stranger with a fetch quest or save their life.
Some enemy camps in the game have prisoners that you can free and recruit them as Scouts. When such an occasion comes, select the Intel option when they ask how they can pay you back.
