When FF7 Rebirth fist launched I loved its performance PC and now that it is on Steam Deck, I’m loving it even more. However, some of my friends and readers who are still on GTX GPUs still can’t run the game.

To run FF7 REBIRTH on NVIDIA GTX GPUs, it’s crucial to understand that the game has specific hardware requirements that exclude older GTX models.

The minimum graphics card requirement is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or equivalent. This means that GTX series cards, including the GTX 1080 or GTX 1070, will not be able to run the game due to the absence of hardware support for ray tracing technology.

There is a workaround here that runs the game on GTX cards, but you have to know that this only works with 16 series cards for the time being.

However, you can try this with other GTX cards and it might work. Since I have not tested it with anything other than a 1660, I can’t confirm if 90 and 10 series cards can run FF7 Rebirth with this workaround.

How to Run FINAL FANTASY 7 REBIRTH on GTX GPUs

  1. Download d3d12.dll

Use this link to download the file.

  2. Locate the Game’s Installation Folder

    Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH\End\Binaries\Win64

  3. Place the Modified DLL

Copy the downloaded d3d12.dll into the Win64 folder.

Start the game through Steam. If it crashes, try running it as an administrator or verify game files first.

When you place the DLL file in the game’s installation folder it tricks the game into thinking your GPU supports required features (e.g., Shader Model 6.6) even if it doesn’t.

The file will reroute unsupported DX12 Ultimate instructions to fallback paths compatible with GTX GPUs, making it possible for you to run Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on GTX 1600 series GPUs.
