Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time provides the players with a lot of professions or lives to start their adventure. However, when you start the game, 2 out of 14 lives are locked. These two are the Farmer and the Artist.
While you can simply jump across the remaining lives whenever you want, these two have some prerequisites to unlock. For example, you can unlock the Farmer life after completing Quest 21, “Visit the Elder Tree,” in Chapter 4 of the game. Similarly, you can unlock the Artist life after completing the “The Artist’s Treasure Hunt” quest in chapter 5.
If you want to unlock these lives, this guide provides all the required information.
How to Unlock the Farmer Life in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time
- Unlock Requirement: Complete “The Polturnip and The Leafe” main quest in Chapter 4
Get to Chapter 4 of Fantasy Life i where you’ll have to complete “The Polturnip and The Leafe” main quest to unlock the Farmer Life. After completing this quest, you have to convert Pino back into a human from a strangeling.
During the “Visit the Elder Tree” quest, you will meet the farmer master Inaji, who will assist you in preparing herb soup that will heal the Elder Tree.
To unlock the Farmer life in Fantasy Life i, you must fight only three Keratis, which are not an issue to deal with if you are on level 15 or above.
After you are done with all of this, you can head back to the Guild Office and speak to Auntie Anne to get the Farmer’s license.
Note: It took me about 7 hours of playing before I was able to get the Farmer’s license.
Now you have to fast travel to Faraway Island and speak with Master Inaji to start the farmer mastery quest, “From Farmers, With Love”. You can also skip this quest and earn the rank of Fledgling, but we suggest you don’t, as it teaches all the basics of farming.
After getting a Fledgling rank, return to Base Camp and you can start your farm as well. The options provided at this time are Radish, Pumpkin, Potato, and Onion. Plenty of options are unlocked as you progress in the Farmer Life. If you are farming, don’t forget to come to Base Camp regularly and water crops. The more fields you plant, the more help you will get in the Cook Life.
You can purchase different types of farms from Cooke under the Infrastructure category. Travel to Marco’s Shop to get seeds.
How to Unlock the Artist Life in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time

- Unlock Requirement; Complete The Artist’s Treasure Hunt main quest in Chapter 5
The Artist Life is unlocked in the next chapter of the game. Its unlocking mechanism is quite similar to the Farmer life. We need to complete The Artist’s Treasure Hunt Main Quest in Chapter 5.
When you get this quest, travel to Tropical Isles. Speak with Auntie Anne and Rem to go there.
However, the enemies you have to face here are level 30, and it is not easy to fight them unless you are at the same level or at least near to it. But if you succeed in defeating them, you will be able to reach level 25 quickly.
Once you are done fighting with the Monsters, you will go on a quest to find a hidden treasure with Paulette; you have to follow a map with three X marks. Check all these marks, defeat the monsters, and attend the art competition between Paulette and Kikyo; go to the Guild Office and get the Artist’s license from Anne.
Now fast travel back to the Tropical Isles, talk to Paulette, and accept the “Set My Soul Ablaze!” quest to learn the basic artistry skills.
She’ll send you to look for her apprentice. You can skip the tutorial here, as there is nothing new to the crafting minigame here.
She will ask you to craft some blue paint with her apprentice. If you choose to go through the tutorial, she’ll have you craft a Jovial Mask by finishing the minigame.
In case you don’t have the required materials for this task, there is a Materials Shop close to Paulette’s house. You’ll need Sugar Lumber, which is priced at 600 Dosh. If you want excellent results during the Jovial Mask minigame, I suggest you get a Cherry Brush (2300 Dosh) from the Tools Shop. However, it is not essential, so don’t spend your money if you are running low on Dosh.
Once you have completed the minigame, your rank will be upgraded from Novice to Fledgling. Now, you are free to work as an artist and create beautiful pieces.
