Having good gear can provide you with an advantage against the fierce enemies of RuneScape Dragonswilds, allowing you to explore higher-level territories.

You will start with basic stone tools and will feel the need to upgrade them as you slowly progress through the game. In this Dragonwilds guide, I will tell you how you can upgrade these basic tools into Tier 2 gear.

How to Upgrade Equipment

To upgrade your basic tools to Tier 2, you will unlock the recipes for both the furnace and the Smithing Table. The crafting table only unlocks basic tier 2 equipment so you’ll need other crafting stations to upgrade to tier 2 and 3.

To unlock the crafting recipe for the Furnace, craft one Bronze Bar requiring 3x Tin Ore, 3x Copper Ore, and 1x Charcoal.

After doing so, crafting recipe for the Furnace will be unlocked, requiring the following resources:

  • Stone x24
  • Clay x8
  • Charcoal x4
  • Fire Rune x10
  • Vault Shard x8

Here’s how to get these items:

  • Stone: A pretty common material used for crafting various items and can be mined from any biome.
  • Clay: Found around the entrance between Whispering Swamp and Fractured Plains.
  • Charcoal: Obtained by placing Ash Logs into the Kiln.
  • Fire Runes: Crafted at the Rune Altar after reaching Level 13 Runecrafting.
  • Vault Shards: Found inside Vaults, Vaults chests, or dropped from Guardians.
  • Use these materials to craft the furnace and place it outside of your base.

The crafting recipe for the Smithing Table will be unlocked after placing the furnace. Now that you have these two workbenches, you can make Tier 2 and higher equipment.

Materials needed for Tier 2 equipment are bones and leather. Here’s how to get them:

  • Leather: Get this material by using animal scraps and rawhide at the Tannery.
  • Bones: To get bones, your best bet is to use the Bark to Bone spell, which is an Artisan skill, unlocking at level 11. Aim the spell at any tree, and it will be turned into collectable bones.

You can now craft Tier 2 gear and equipment. To make even higher-tier gear, you will need to explore a lot more to gather different resources.
