Gamers often use cheats to cut corners in the game and defeat their opponents. In games like Civilization VII, where spending time on exploration is an important part of the gameplay, cheats can come quite handy.
You have to send a scout, settler, or explorer into the unknown territories to find out what is available there.
If you don’t get anything fruitful there, it can be quite frustrating and time-wasting. Hence, many players wonder if there is a way to use cheats in the game that can help them instantly uncover the map and find out the useful areas.
Well, the good news is that yes, you can use Civ 7 cheats, but you will have to enable the debug console while playing on PC.
Thankfully, it is a simple process and takes only a couple of minutes. However, there are only a handful of Civilization 7 cheats that can be useful outside of exploration, but they are quite helpful for those wishing to unlock the full map instantly.
How to Enable the Civilization VII Debug Console?
The Civilization 7 debug console isn’t enabled by default on PC but can be done by editing the “AppOptions” document in your game’s installation files.
Once enabled, you can do various things like skip to the next age, see the full map, and remove or enable the Fog of War in the 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) game. Follow the steps below to enable the Civ 7 debug console:
- Go to Explorer and follow this path: C: > Users > Your Username > AppData > Local > Firaxis Games > Sid Meier’s Civilization VII.
- Locate the “AppOptions” file and open it in Notepad.
- Find “;EnableDebugPanels -1” text and replace it with “EnableDebugPanels 1” and save the file.
Note: When editing this file, make sure you change -1 to 1 and remove the semicolon (;). If you don’t do these, the debug console will not be enabled. Plus, if you plan to disable the debug console in the near future, save the text you have altered.
How to Use Civilization 7 Cheats in Debug Console?
Once you have enabled the debug console, you can now use Civ 7 cheats. To open the console, press the tilde key (~) or apostrophe (‘), depending on your region.
It is easier to use console commands in Civilization 7 than most of the traditional debug menus, as it provides PC players with various buttons and checkboxes.
Out of all, four are the most useful for players, and three of them can be found in the debug section of the Map tab.
You can also customize the Civilization 7 debug menu with the help of the Move button at the bottom of the console. These are given below:
- Force Age Transition (UI > Gameplay): You can use it to immediately skip to the next age.
- Reveal All (Map > Debug): You can access the full map and see everything on it.
- Explore All (Map > Debug): It allows players to see the full map.
- Enable FOW (Map > Debug): Lets you remove or enable the Fog of War.
As we are still in the early days of the game (released: February 11, 2025), these are the only Civ 7 cheats or console commands that we know about at the time of the writing.
