Batman has had more than a few iconic portrayals over the last few decades, but many believe Kevin Conroy remains the definitive voice of the character. Kevin Conroy was also chosen to voice Batman in the Arkham trilogy, with the actor later reprising his role in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
However, Roger Craig Smith voiced the character during this time in Batman: Arkham Origins, portraying a younger, inexperienced version of the character. Discussing this role and his experience, Roger Craig Smith recently admitted that he would love to return as Batman in Rocksteady’s next game.
In a recent interview with Roger Craig Smith, Dan Allen Gaming argued that the actor should be the first choice to take on Kevin Conroy’s mantle in Rocksteady’s next game.
Responding to this statement, the actor admitted that living up to the bar set by Kevin Conroy is not an easy task. He discussed how any actor who attempts to portray Batman does so carefully so as not to step too far away from the baseline established by Kevin Conroy.
According to Roger Craig Smith, it’s hard to say where Rocksteady wants to take the character next, whether it be a familiar take or a completely different direction. However, the voice actor stated that he would be more than happy to return as the voice of Batman.
“I know nothing about what’s going on with regard to Rocksteady on that (the direction and choice for the next Batman). Of course, I would jump at the chance.” -Roger Craig Smith
Following his work on Batman: Arkham Origins, the iconic voice actor reprised his role as the character in 2024’s Batman: Arkham Shadows. Moreover, he was picked to voice Bruce Wayne and his alter ego in the anime movie Batman Ninja.
As such, Roger Craig Smith now holds several years of experience voicing the character, making him a natural pick to continue Kevin Conroy’s legacy in the next big Batman Arkham title from Rocksteady.
