Deltarune is the follow-up to critically acclaimed Undertale and follows an episodic structure. It even got a demo before its official release. Usually, saves get automatically imported to the full game at launch, but for Deltarune on Steam Deck and Linux, the demo saves have to be manually imported or moved to the full game. Here is how you can import the demo saves into the full game.

How to Move Deltarune Demo Saves on Steam Deck and Linux

Linux and Steam Deck users aren’t able to continue Deltarune from where they left off in the demo, and have to start from the beginning. This is because the demo save files don’t automatically move to the full game on PCs and handhelds that run on Linux.

But that does not mean there is no way to import those demo saves to the full version of Deltarune. To import the saves, you need to run a command in the system terminal. Here is how you can import saves:

Open the system terminal on Linux or Steam Deck; for the latter, you have to boot the handheld in Desktop mode. Paste the following command, and your saves from the demo version of Deltarune will be moved to the full game. The first command is for the demo, while the second command is for the full game.

cp ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1690940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/DELTARUNE/* ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1671210/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/DELTARUNE/

Steam

The above fix assumes that you ran the full game at least once, cloud saves are disabled, and it is installed in the ~/.steam folder.

For Steam Deck users, who have the demo or both stored on an external device, like a microSD, replace the “/path/to/”  part of the command with your path to the “steamapps” folder.

That is all for our guide on how to import your demo saves for Deltarune to the full release. If you are experiencing errors and issues in other games, also see our fixes hub for commonly occurring errors for PC and handhelds.
