Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has launched with rave reviews from critics and players. On top of that, the game runs and scales well on various PC configurations. Despite that, some PC users are not having a good experience wth the game, as they report the game is crashing randomly while playing with the “out of system memory” error. Here I have compiled a few fixes that will resolve the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 out of memory error on your PC.
Best Fixes for Kingdom Come Deliverance II Out of System Memory Error
As stated, PC users experience the error as the game crashes randomly while playing. This error occurs due to multiple reasons, like a limited shader cache, background processes, or applications using too much RAM, and more. The following fixes will resolve the KCD2 out of memory error on your Windows PC.
Fix #1 – Increase Shader Cache Size
Nvidia driver version 572.16 is causing problems for some PC users. These drivers are crashing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 at startup, and rolling back to a previous driver version fixes it. On top of that, PC users report that the 572.16 driver also resets the Shader cache size to 0, which is why Kingdom Come Deliverance is crashing randomly with the out of system memory error. You can fix the issue by increasing the cache, and here is how to do it:
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel.
- Go to the “Manage 3D Settings” tab.
- Click on the “Global settings” tab.
- Select the “Shader cache size” option and set it to “driver default” or select a higher value.
- Apply the changes, play KCD2, and it won’t crash with the out of memory error.

Fix #2 – Close Background Processes and Apps
If you are running a background application like Discord or a browser, it is using your system RAM, which does not leave much for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 to use. This is why the game is crashing to the desktop with the out of memory error message. Fix this issue by closing all applications and processes that use too much RAM before launching KCD2.
Fix #3 – Increase Virtual Memory
Virtual Memory, or paging file, is a Windows feature that tricks the PC into having more RAM by reserving HDD or SSD storage and simulating it as RAM. The reason Kingdom Come Deliverance is crashing to the desktop with the “out of system memory” error is that the default virtual memory setting isn’t reserving enough space for the game. You can fix the error by manually increasing the visual memory, and here is how you can do it:
- Open Windows Settings > System > About > Advanced System Settings.
- Click “Settings” under Performance, and go to the Advanced tab in Performance Options.
- Click on “Change” under Virtual memory.
- Uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.”
- Select the drive with at least 32 GB of available space.
- Check the Custom size option.
- Input ‘16,384’ for the Initial size and ‘32,768’ for the Maximum size and press OK.
- Restart your PC, play KCD2, and the out of memory error is fixed.

Fix #4 – Enable Sysmem Fallback Policy for KCD2
Sysmem Fallback Policy is an Nvidia GPU driver feature that Nvidia introduced to fix errors like the “out of video memory” error on PC. Enable to fix the out of memory error in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings.
- Select Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
- Scroll through the options and find “CUDA-Sysmem Fallback Policy.”
- Select “Prefer Sysmem Fallback” and apply changes.
- Play KCD2 and the system out of memory error is now fixed.
