Last Epoch is quite generous when it comes to granting rare items to players. You’ll be overwhelmed with the number of items that you’ll gather fairly early in the game. However, not all of these are useful. Instead of overloading your inventory with these useless items, there is a better way of dealing with them.
Last Epoch lets players disenchant them and extract useful materials from them like shards. The ARPG allows players to dismantle and salvage items through a process known as shattering. Salvaging unwanted gear allows players to make slots for better resources that can help you progress quickly in the game.
While the process is relatively easy, not all players might know how to disenchant items in Last Epoch and convert them into useful materials and shards. In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about this process.
How to Dismantle and Salvage Items in Last Epoch?

You can disenchant or dismantle items in the Last Epoch through the Runes of Shattering. The Runes of Shattering is a special tool that destroys an item and extracts the attached affixes, which are then converted into a shard.
If you get your hands on an item that has a couple of useful mods or affixes, you can use the Rune of Shattering to convert it into something valuable.
Once you get the shards, you can use them in the Forge to craft items. It is the only place where players can salvage an item. For quick access, simply press F, and you can access it. On the map, the Forge is denoted by an anvil marker.
Once you are in the Forge menu, you will find a dedicated section that lets you add items from the inventory. Players can select the Rune of Shattering by using a Modifier Item. Press Shatter, and the item will be converted into useful materials.
Just a pro tip from our side: only select the items that are useless for your character build, as you will not be able to get them back once destroyed.
The above process allows you to separate the sealed affixes as shards from the disenchanted pieces. You can then use the Affix Shards to craft Legendary Items in the game. Please note that the Rune of Shattering doesn’t work against Unique Items, Set Equipment, or Legendary Items.
How and Where to Get the Runes of Shattering in the Last Epoch?
Provided how useful the Runes of Shattering are, it is obvious that you won’t find them that easily. It is quite an uncommon item and also an expensive one.
You can also buy it from the shop in your local town by paying a hefty amount of 2,000 gold per piece. If you couldn’t find it at your local shop, travel to some other town, and you’ll get it from there.
The gold amount may look trivial once you advance in the game but it is way too much early in the game. Towards the end of the game, you can loot runes after killing enemies and bosses. This is why players are suggested to use the Runes of Shattering wisely and not waste their gold.
