After testing Lego Horizon Adventures on Steam Deck, I thought why not test what it can do on Asus ROG Ally X. Well, the results are pretty great to be honest.
ROG Ally X and Lego Horizon Adventures are a great match, and same is the case on Legion Go where the game performs really well.
But to get the best out of your experience in Lego Horizon Adventures you still need to use the right settings on ROG Ally X.
Before we get into the settings part, let me get the basics out of the way. First, the TDP. I ran the game at 25W on every resolution I tested and found that 25W or anything above it is the best for Lego Horizon Adventures on ROG Ally X.
Just like on Steam Deck, resolution scaling and TSR is the only settings that has the most impact on your frame rates and visual quality. So, the goal is to find the right TSR percentage to get the best results.
Depending on your frame rate preference, you can scale the TSR. However, never go below 50% because the visual quality drops pretty significantly. The game starts to look rough around the edges and it is just not worth it.
Performance Breakdown at Various Resolutions and TSR
1080p:
- High Settings, TSR at 50%: ~34-36 FPS.
- Low Settings, TSR at 50%: ~58 FPS (almost 60).
900p:
- Works well with high settings and 50% TSR; gains a slight FPS boost over 1080p.
720p:
- High Settings, TSR at 50%: ~43-55 FPS.
- Native 720p or TSR at 70% offers smooth gameplay with good image quality.
Minimum 50% for acceptable image quality; below this, noticeable ghosting and pixelation occur (especially on NPCs). I recommend you keep it at a minimum 50%. I DOT NOT recommend lowering resolution over dropping TSR below 50% for better image clarity.
Best Lego Horizon Adventures Settings for Asus ROG Ally X
Here are my remmendations for preset, resolution, and TSR settings:
- Use 720p with Medium Settings and 50% TSR for smoother gameplay (~47-55 FPS).
- If aiming for 1080p, stick to Low Settings with 50% TSR for a near-60 FPS experience.
- 1080p at High preset with 50% TSR can do 30 to 35fps which is quite acceptable in this game and that’s actually how I played the game and had no issues.
The device can handle lower wattage settings (17W-22W) with further compromises in settings. But 25W with 8GB VRAM allocation is recommended here.
