Decky Loader has a brand new plugin that can double your frame rates on Steam Deck. Called the Decky Frame Gen, it is available through the Decky Loader store for the Steam Deck.

What it does is convert a game’s existing DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) frame generation to FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) frame generation.

This means that games that natively support frame generation with DLSS (but don’t have native options for FSR) can benefit from FSR’s upscaling and frame generation, helping to potentially improve performance.

First, you need to install Decky Loader which is really easy process these days.

How to Install the Decky Frame Gen Plugin

Installing the Decky Frame Gen Plugin

Once Decky Loader is installed (via Desktop Mode), return to Game Mode and you should see a little plug icon in the Quick Access Menu (three dots)—this means Decky Loader is running.

Installing the Decky Frame Gen Plugin

Click on the store icon at the top, next to the settings cogwheel.

Install the Decky-Framegen plugin and once the process is complete you should see it appear in Quick Access menu for Decky:

And for the cherry on top, install the FG mod from within the Decky Frame Gen interface, which enables replacing DLSS with FSR frame generation in compatible titles.

When you have Decky Frame Gen installed as well as the accompanying FG mod, you’re ready to start supercharging your games on the Steam Deck.

The plugin translates a game’s existing DLSS frame generation to FSR frame generation, producing a generically large performance gain such as doubling the framerate, in some cases.

For example, in Plague Tale Requiem, the plugin will alter the games rendering mode from DLSS super resolution to FSR 3 frame generation resulting in a much higher frame rate.

You can also patch compatible games like Plague Tale Requiem and Hogwarts Legacy via the plugin’s interface, but remember that the mod stays active until you specifically unpatch it (by verifying game files or reinstalling the game).

Note: From the game settings always select DLSS when this mod is active. DLSS is now FSR 3.

When enabled on games such as Hogwarts Legacy the mod shows additional settings allowing you to adjust upscale sharpness and activate x2 frame generation; both which significantly bolster the experience.

While input latency may be introduced (as it will smooth out gameplay), it should be locked on for best performance (lock at 40 FPS, open at 50 FPS, or lock at 60 FPS, etc).

All in all, Decky Frame Gen isn’t an end-all, be-all cure for every performance ailment, but something like this is a great way to take advantage of FSR’s capabilities and may make it possible to play a few more games at a decent framerate on the Steam Deck.
