Marathon is set to launch later today, and the game has many cautiously optimistic for a potential return to form from Bungie. Following the recent playtest, players also have a decent idea of what to expect from the game come launch, and the first-person shooter appears to be performing decently on the Steam best-sellers list.
As a reminder, Marathon is set to launch on the PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. However, the game has just been rated by the ESRB, and this rating also lists the PS4 and Xbox One as platforms.

As seen above, the ESRB rating lists the last-generation PS4 and Xbox One as platforms for Marathon. What makes this so interesting is the fact that Bungie has yet to mention or even hint at last-generation ports.
Perhaps this rating is hinting at secret ports of the game being in the works at the studio. In the past, games have been backported to the last generation, with a title like Star Wars Jedi Survivor being a prominent example. Similarly, live-service titles like Call of Duty still support older hardware, so it would make sense for Marathon to do the same, at least on paper.
On the other hand, this may simply be a mistake on the ESRB’s part since the board may have published an inaccurate rating in time for launch day. Anyhow, the game has received a Teen rating, which isn’t too surprising for anybody following the title.
In other news, PlayStation has reportedly made major changes to its PC strategy recently. The gaming giant will no longer be as generous with its first-party releases on the platform, choosing to instead limit PC releases to the live-service slate.
