Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play multiplayer game, quickly became a fan favorite across PC and consoles. The game’s popularity soared within the first 72 hours as it reached the 10 million player mark, according to their official Twitter account. Despite being an optimized game, many PC players in the community report errors and crashes. The Marvel Rivals “out of memory” error is one of the most common reported by PC players, and I have compiled a list of fixes that will resolve this error.
Marvel Rivals Out of Memory Error Fixes That Work
Marvel Rivals is crashing on PC due to multiple reasons, including low RAM size, apps and programs running in the background, or a small virtual memory. Please note that the “Out of Memory” error is a RAM-related issue and must not be confused with the Marvel Rivals Out of Video Memory error, which is a totally different error. The following fixes will prevent Marvel Rivals from crashing randomly while playing on a Windows PC.
Fix #1 – Increase RAM
Marvel Rivals is a memory-intensive game and requires a lot of RAM space to run smoothly. Many PC users have mentioned in the community that they are facing Marvel Rivals gameplay crashes on a PC with 16 GB of RAM. The game is unusually demanding when it comes to the RAM footprint. You can fix the “Out of Memory” error by increasing the RAM to a minimum of 24 GB.
Fix #2 – Close All Background Apps and Tools
One of the many perks of playing games on PC is that users can run numerous apps, tools, and programs in the background to enhance their gaming experience. Apps and tools like Discord, MSI Afterburner, drivers/software for external devices and peripherals like controllers & HOTAS, and more. While all of these are extremely helpful, they can also force games to crash.
Marvel Rivals keeps crashing with the “out of memory” error because you are using these background apps and tools, which take up a lot of RAM space. Disable all these tools, apps, and programs, and the “out of memory” crash will be fixed.
Fix #3 – Increase Virtual Memory
Windows has many built-in features that help streamline performance. One of them is Virtual Memory or a paging file, which makes the PC use some part of SSD or HDD storage as RAM. Resource-intensive games like Marvel Rivals often crash with an out of memory error if the default virtual memory size isn’t big enough. PC users can fix this error by increasing the virtual memory manually with the help of the following steps:
- Go to Windows Settings, go to the “System” tab, click About, and go to Advanced System Settings.
- Under Performance, click “Settings” and select the Advanced tab in the Performance Options.
- Click “Change” under Virtual Memory.
- Uncheck the box against the “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” option.
- Now select a drive that has at least 32 GB of free space.
- Check the “Custom” size option and enter “16,384” for the Initial size and “32,768” for the Maximum size.
- Press OK and restart your PC.
- The Marvel Rivals “out of memory” crash is now fixed.
